Naughty Boy - Beware before you turn naughty
[Thursday, March 30, 2006]

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON

That’s what the tagline of TLV Prasad’s upcoming sex film ‘Naughty Boy’ says. And well, it does set a good enough context about the movie. Now the viewer gets a chance to decide between the ‘real’ NAUGHTY BOY! Is he the father? Or the son?

What happens when a sexy curvaceous young woman enters a household that comprises of ‘only men’? Ask the father-son duo of Rahul Roy and Hitesh Kriplani who faced this situation and indeed turn “naughty”! A multi-millionaire businessman, Rahul Roy had everything that he desired when it came to riches and wealth. He lives life king size and flirts around the globe! Well, this is only aided by the fact that he is a widower and hence choose the kind of life style he wishes for.

The only thing missing in his life? He wants his teenage son Hitesh too to enjoy life to the fullest whereas Hitesh is an introvert self who restricts himself to his own world. To ‘cure’ Hitesh of this ‘problem’, he comes up with a million dollar idea!

He hires a young governess who could teach his teenage son the ‘facts’ of life and make Hitesh as ‘mature’ and ‘manly’ as himself! His secretary does help him in hiring a young’n’sexy girl who turns out to be none other than Mona Chopra who has looks that could kill and a body that could make every men lust for her.

As expected, the inevitable happens! Now the man in Rahul Roy falls for the girl and wants to marry her at all costs. In nutshell, the much older man turns into a ‘naughty boy’!

Meanwhile things turn particularly rosy for Hitesh as he witnesses the secrets of a woman’s beauty that he had never imagined before. Mona teases him, lures him and attracts him towards herself and educates him on everything that a boy of her age should. She becomes his sex teacher and in one particular incident also educates him on how to give ice massage to a woman by rolling an ice cube all over her body!

It doesn’t come as a surprise that now Hitesh too is heads over heel in love with Mona and wants to take her teaching act a level further up by marrying her! After the father, now its the turn of the son to turn ‘naughty boy’!

But do the father-son duo know whom does Mona want to marry? In a hilarious tussle of trying to prove their love, they do not realize that Mona too had something in her mind that none of the two could ever fathom!

Because it is not them but Mona who turns out to be a ‘naughty girl’!

What would happen to father and the son from hereon? Would they go full throttle to get the love (or is it lust) that they desire? Or would their roving eyes start searching for someone else?

‘Naughty Boy’ is a fun film directed by TLV Prasad and produced by Mahendra Dhariwal. As per the star cast of the movie, it is a situational comedy that runs on the similar lines of films like No Entry, Kya Kool Hai Hum, Garam Masala, etc. Also the skin show is defended by the fact that the movie completely falls under today’s genre of film and doesn’t have any vulgar scenes that would make family audience cringe!

Ho Sakta Hai - Do you believe in an alternative force?
[Tuesday, March 28, 2006]

Pick up any national newspaper and invariably you will find news about animal/human sacrifice, witches and practice of black magic, especially in the heartland of India. Howsoever hard one may find to believe, the fact remains that there are still many who are firm believers in black magic and voodoo.

Is this a reality or a superstition?
Is this a fact or a fiction?
Kya aisa “ho sakta hai”?

There may not be right or wrong answers to these centuries old questions but producer Ashok K. Kotwani and director Wilson Louis aim at telling one such shocking story set in an Indian village where it got established that black magic did exist!

Somewhere in the heartland of India [Khetwadi], Dadaji [Victor Banerjee] lived a content life with his grandson, daughter in law and great-grandson Tanya [Dharmik]. Protective about his family, he just wanted a simple life for everyone in spite of the fact that he was wealthy in his own right.

But soon a tragedy strikes as eyes of evil start staring at the happiness of his family. What really happened? Whose were these evil eyes? What did they want?

Mohan, Dadaji’s second grandson, gets a call to urgently return back to India. He is a medical student at American Institute of Medical Studies, US and on realizing the urgency of the situation rushes back home. In his journey back home in his village, he also has a chance encounter with a saint Kushaba [Mukesh Tiwari] who has a unique ability to tell the layout of any individual’s house by merely looking at the face!

Meanwhile Mohan reaches home and is shocked to hear the fact that his brother and sister-in-law have gone missing. To make matters worse, Tanya has been possessed by unknown forces and is now en route to destruction of everyone around!

The person behind this terrible situation? Parvati [Mohini], Dadaji’s neighbor.

Her motive? To acquire Dadaji’s wealth.
Her modus operandi? To cast a spell on the house by means of black magic.
Her means to do that? An adolescent boy, Tanya, whom she uses against his own family.

For an educated man like Mohan who was studying medicine himself, it may have been initially difficult to believe that such a practice indeed existed. But the situation around forced him to start understanding and accepting the alternative force. A force that was causing trouble for his entire family.

And now there was only one man who could save the family from the destruction that was staring at the family - Mohan himself.

He picks up the fight and now wants to give it back to the evil eyes of Parvati. Will he succeed? Or would Parvati’s power and knowledge of black magic create mayhem all over? What does Dadaji do? And does Tanya ever come out of this evil spell?

Boasting of more than 30 minutes of special effects, it is also in news for its digitally created nude sequence that is requirement of the script. ‘Ho Sakta Hai’ is a debut film of director Wilson Louis who has been handling the SFX division for Ketan Mehta’s company and has around 30 feature films in SFX to his credit. After getting immense recognition worldwide in the film festival screenings during last one year, ‘Ho Sakta Hai’ is coming to Indian screens this Friday.

Gangster - A story of love and betrayal

Production: Mukesh Bhatt

Gangster - A story of love and betrayal
[Tuesday, March 28, 2006]

If Ram Gopal Verma has his FACTORY to create off beat films set in commercial modes, then VISHESH FILMS too have created their own genre of films. A genre that encapsulates the right elements of shock value, sex, thrills and drama that results in a potboiler ‘masala’ fare! What also stands out in most of their flicks is a distinct storyline that keeps the viewer guessing at every step. ‘Gangster’ is one such film from their stable that releases few weeks down the line. Directed by Anurag Basu who has a super hit ‘Murder’ to his credit, ‘Gangster’ may be taking ample inspiration from the real life story of a gangster and his girlfriend but the treatment promises to be of the kind that makes for a good commercial outing. And why not when the nation’s upcoming heartthrob Emraan Hashmi starring in the film, though the title role is played by the hottest discovery of 2005 - Shiney Ahuja. Kangna Raut, a stunning theatre actor, makes her Bollywood debut as a sole heroine in the film.

SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM…THE DAY SHE BETRAYED HIM

This is how the film’s plot is described in one line. Now everyone understands that the ’she’ is none other than Kangna Ranaut, but who is that man who gets betrayed? Is it the same man who the lady is in love with? Or she loves someone else and betrays the other?

Lots of questions! Lots of curiosity! Lots of suspense’n'drama! That’s GANGSTER for you.

The love story of Daya [Shiney Ahuja] and Simran [Kangana Ranaut] was a little weird, or rather unpredictable.

They loved each other despite the distance factor
They loved each other despite the fact they were two distinct personalities
They loved each other despite the fact that they didn’t meet each other for months at stretch

They loved each other despite the fact that Daya was a criminal - A GANGSTER

The only thing that tied them together - their DREAMS!!!

Daya was a criminal, a man at large who was hunted around by the police all over the globe. Though there was not much in his life to cheer about, there was only one person who brought him happiness - his ladylove Simran. She too reciprocated his love but wanted only one thing in return - a simple life with kids, home and lots of love from the man of her dreams.

With a kind of life Daya lived, would he be able to give Simran whatever she desired?

A contrasting personality Akash [Emraan Hashmi] soon enters Simran’s life. A happy-go-lucky young man, he has in him everything that Simran wanted from her dream partner. Though he is a little careless when it comes to realizing the value of life, he lives every day and enjoys to the fullest.

Will Akash turn out to be the man who would be able to give Simran whatever she desired?

Akash and Simran start getting closer to each other fully realizing that they are walking a road of thorns. While Akash learns the lessons of life the hard way, Simran is in a dilemma regarding the man she wants to spend her life with!

Will Daya return back to give Simran whatever she desired? Or will police nail him down to permanently separate him from his lady love?

Does Simran go back to him if he pulls her in his arms?

Whom does she BETRAY?

Daya, a man who has selflessly loved her all these years?
Or Akash who has shown her the way to live her dreams?

A Mukesh Bhatt film shot in never-seen-before city of Seoul, ‘Gangster’ has superb musical score by Pritam [in true Bhatt tradition] and releases early in the month of May.

Banaras - “A Mystic Love Story”

Banaras - “A Mystic Love Story”
[Thursday, March 16, 2006]

Pankuj Parashar, one of the trend-setting directors of Indian Cinema, is now ready with his new directorial venture, Setu Creations’ “Banaras A Mystic Love Story”, which is complete and all set for release on April 7 all-over.

Parashar, whose earlier feature films include Ab Ayega Maza (1983), Jalwa (1987) and Chalbaaz (1989), joins hands with producer L.C.Singh, president and CEO of Pune-based IT company, Nihilent Technologies, to give us a love story with elements of mysticism, spiritualism and existentialism.

Shot on locations in Banaras in a span of 45 days (with two days shooting in Mauritius), the film captures the flavor of this holy city without the didacticism of a documentary film. It retains the entertaining elements of a commercial film, yet it operates at various levels from science to mysticism.

The film features in its main cast Urmila Matondkar, Ashmit Patel, Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah and Akash Khurana. Says director Parashar, “I am venturing into this genre of filmmaking for the first time and it has been a great experience. Banaras is a beautiful city and it is a pity we are not aware of its spiritual wealth”.

“The film is not a documentary”, he adds, “It is out and out commercial film that talks about existentialism”. “It is the story of a physics scholar (Urmila Matondkar) who falls in love with a music lover (Ashmit Patel). It interprets the concept of existentialism with the help of a love story. It kind of connects quantum of physics to what the Vedas say,” he says.

The music has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Five contemporary songs in the film have a strong classical base with the Banaras gharana touch, while lyrics have been written by Sameer, who hails from Banaras.

Singh says the message they have tried to convey is that “You build your own path. What kind of a world you create is up to you. Compassion is really what we’ve tried to propagate through the film”, he adds.

The film’s other credits include cinematography by Nirav Shah, art by Nitish Roy, screenplay by L.C.Singh and Javed Siddiqui, dialogue by Javed Siddiqui and choreography by Saroj Khan.

The story is written by producer L.C.Singh himself, who grew up in Banaras and studied at the Banaras Hindu University. He says the film is an attempt to introduce a young Indian audience to the wonders of Banaras. Singh firmly believes in remaining rooted to his heritage and wanted a medium to communicate this to the younger generation. The choice of film as a medium to communicate this message is incidental, as he felt that films enjoy tremendous popularity amongst the youth and is capable of leaving huge visual impact. The ideas that gave shape to “Banaras A Mystic Love Story” existed in Singh’s mind for a long time but the constrains of time and commitment to IT business held him back. Finally, he took some time off from the board of Nihilent Technologies to pursue his crative urge.

“People do not know that it has been the center of Indian spirituality for centuries, perhaps millennia. Every Indian spiritual leader from the rishis to Buddha and from Nanak and Kabir to J.Krishnamurthy have lived there”, Singh says.

Singh continues, “Banaras is the epitome of everything that we call Indian. I wanted to make a film that would reflect the beautiful Indian tradition to the youngsters. Youngsters of today have lots of talent and energy. They need to belong somewhere, they need to be proud of belonging to India. The only way we can make them realize what India is, is to show them its rich culture and heritage. This film is my attempt to do that.”

“The film is meant to be entertainment, not an art film or a docu-drama. Set in present times, it deals with contemporary issues”, Singh adds.
