| “Right Place At The Right Time,” says Kangana Ranaut | |
| Monday, September 25, 2006 | |
| “It’s all about being at the right place at the right time,” says seductively cerebral actress Kangana Ranaut who made a smashing debut with Anurag Basu’s ‘Gangster’ early this year. Within a span of few months she has several big films up her sleave like ‘Metro’, Suneel Darshan’s ‘Shakalaka…’ but the film that she is most excited about is Mohit Suri’s ‘Woh Lamhe’ where she is enacting the reel version of actress of yesteryears Parveen Babi. It is a complex role as it delineates upon Babi’s relationship with director Mahesh Bhatt and how she slipped into Schizophrenia. IndiaGlitz caught up with the talented actress before the release of the film and found out why she doesn’t want to do a ‘Chandramukhi’, ‘Paro’ or ‘Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam’. | |

| American Blend - When Khosla became Chaddha |
| [Saturday, September 23, 2006] |
Around 3-4 years back, a new wave of film making started with films like ‘Mitr’, ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, ‘American Desi’, ‘ABCD’ etc. coming up in quick succession. Since the films dealt with the lives of Indians settled overseas and had a mix of ‘desi’ and ‘videshi’ feel to them, they were addressed as, for the lack of any better term, CROSSOVER films! ‘AMERICAN BLEND’ belongs to the same category as it tells the tale of an America based family headed by an Indian. Produced by Krishna Datla, D.Vasant Kumar and Vishwaas Paandya, ‘American Blend’ is directed by one film old Varun Khanna who also pens the screenplay. ‘American Blend’ has been described as a rap-tap-hip-hop, music and dance celebration of a cross-cultural, part-Indian, part-American family living in California. So, who all make this family? Raj Chadha [Anupam Kher] leads the bunch that comprises of his Caucasian American wife Jayme [Dee Wallace Stone] and 3 children Nikita a.k.a Niki [Amita Bhalla], Brijesh a.k.a BJ [Sunkrish Bala] and Maya [Kristin Erickson]. Both Raj and Jayme have a past. While Raj had two children Niki and B.J. from his first wife who was no more, for Jayme too it was a second marriage and had Maya from her first husband. Regardless of their cultural difference, these 5 people led a happy family with an Ameircan lifestyle but traditional Indian moral values.
Each of them had an interest area of their own. For Raj, it was food and Bollywood all the way [though not in any particular order]! His passion led him to bring the two together and open a restaurant called Bollywood Café. Meanwhile Jayme was a trained Kathak dancer and Maya too was following on her foot steps. On the other hand Niki helped Raj run his cafe along with Yogi [Ranjit Chaudhry], who was not just an assistant chef but also someone who was very close to Raj in his good and bad times. Out of this entire family, B.J. was the only individual who didn’t really have a direction set for himself. After failing to contribute anything worthwhile for his father’s cafe, he didn’t really know where to go and passed his time with his best buddy Mercury [David Oyelowo]. Mercury too pleasured himself in the art of dance and was an upcoming tap dancer who was trying to find a way to establish himself. It was life as usual for the Chadha family and everything seemed to be going right when an incident threatened to shake the family. Differences seemed to be cropping in and it seemed to create a heavy imbalance amongst the various family members. A secret was unearthed that could have better remained curbed forever! And now it was up to the family to come together again, resolve the issues and get back on the happy ways again. A a story of trials and tribulations, and their ultimate coming together in a colorful, musical blend of both cultures, ‘American Blend’ looks at what can go right when culturally diverse families come together in the redefining of a new America. With cinematography by Christopher Gosch and editing by Chuck Ewart, ‘American Blend’ has music by Kevin Saunders Hayes and Abu Malik and releases in India on 29th September. |

| Krishna - Bollywood wakes up the great hero |
| [Saturday, September 23, 2006] |
Mythology has always enchanted audience world over and that too in various formats. Religious gatherings, books, comics, television, movies…you name it and you would find a way in which great stories from the past have been passed on from generation to generation. Bollywood too has been contributing in its own way to this endeavor and though the volume of making films revolving around mythology may have diminished, the concept is still being kept alive by some entrepreneur film makers. After the phenomenal success of ‘Hanuman’ last year, Hindi film world would again witness one of the greatest heroes of all times, Krishna, albeit in the younger days of his life. Though there would hardly be a soul who may not be aware about the stories revolving around Krishna, it is always entertaining to hear [and see] them all over again. This becomes especially exciting when it is presented in an animation format, which in turn becomes highly appealing to the kids.
‘KRISHNA’, a richly animated, musical feature film tells the story of Lord Krishna’s birth, his childhood spent in Vrindavan and his slaying of Kansa, the evil ruler of Mathura. The film features various adventures of his childhood, including his clashes with demons like Pootna, Trinavarat and many more. This animated feature also brings to life Lord Krishna’s naughty aspects like stealing butter, and other adventures. Another enchanting aspect of Lord Krishna’s life of playing the flute and bewitching the ‘gopis’, who become eternally devoted to him and indulge in Ras Leela, is beautifully depicted in this entertaining feature. Lord Krishna, as a very young man returns to Mathura and finally overthrows his evil uncle Kansa, thus bringing to an end this fascinating story of his birth and childhood days. ‘Krishna’, the 1st Hindi animated feature film on Lord Krishna is a Jayantilal Gada presentation and is produced by Shethia Audio Video Pvt. Ltd. The film, directed by Aman Khan, was 2 years in the making, with the skilled and colorful animation done by Media Solutionz. The film features melodious music and songs composed by Rajendra Shiv. The soundtrack of the film features leading singers of the industry like Kailash Kher, Sonu Nigam, Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Alisha Chinai and Kumar Sanu. The haunting compositions have an everlasting flavor and shall definitely appeal to all. The background score by Bapi-Tutul lifts the scale of the film further, thus enhancing the viewing pleasure. All in all, the music of ‘Krishna’ is one to stay in the minds of listeners for years to come. A highly colorful and entertaining feature film, the film is surely going to appeal to everyone alike when it releases all over on 29th September this festive season. |
