Raqeeb - Beware of love
[Monday, April 30, 2007]

Love stories have been IN ever since the term Bollywood was coined. Add to it a thriller element and it sure makes for one ‘masala bhelpuri’ which more often than not does taste good.

‘Raqeeb’ is a similar dish in the offering which comes from the house of Raj Kanwar. He is the same man who has made a career out of ‘masala’ flicks like ‘Deewana’, ‘Jeet’, ‘Badal’ and many more. Though off late he is seen directing love stories like ‘Andaaz’ and ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’ his passion for making hardcore commercial entertainers still remains. This is the reason why he entrusts the responsibility of directing a film to debutant director Anurag Singh for his home production.

‘Raqeeb’ could probably be the most twisted film of the current season, what with promise of innumerous twists and turns promised in the plot. With one woman and three men in the picture and story being far away from a conventional love triangle, ‘Raqeeb’ sets one on a guessing game where unexpected turn of events is the order of the day.

There is seduction, love, betrayal, passion, obsession and crime. And when all of this come together, an intriguing story is born!

‘Raqeeb’ is about Sofie [Tanushree Dutta] and three men in her life. Who is Sofie? Well, no one really knows. And even if someone does know her, none can say for sure about knowing her real self in and out. A mysterious theater actress, there is something about her that makes one attracted towards her but also be a little unsure.

The men in her life are Sunny [Jimmy Sheirgill], Remo Mathews [Rahul Khanna] and Sidharth [Sharman Joshi].

Sunny - He is someone who is a struggling film actor but still is high on life. For him, life is about living it on and being spirited throughout. A stylish young man who loves to drive bikes and has been trying to make a future for himself, he is in love with Sofie! Sofie loves him too but his financial and social status come in the way of her love and she looks for someone who could get her all - money, name, fame and power!

Remo - He is the man who could give everything that Sofie always wanted. A software czar, he had achieved everything at a young age but lacked only one thing in his life - love of a woman. And it was not something that he could earn himself since he was a shy-n-introverted man who was apprehensive of approaching woman. A chance blind date set by an employee-friend of his resulted in getting him his future wife - Sofie!

Sidharth - He is the man whom Remo trusted most. An extrovert playboy, Sidharth wants his friend Remo to be hooked on with some girl soon. And soon, he finds one - Sofie! But has he made the right choice?

Remo and Sofie meet and soon they find themselves walking the altar. There is a slight hesitation in the beginning though since their parents had died in the same a car accident and as is revealed, Rahul’s parents were the ones responsible for the death of Sofie’s parents. The issue is sorted out and the two are soon man and wife!

But for how long?

Soon Sunny enters into their lives and Sofie starts feeling the same love for him as she earlier had. An extra marital affair for her begins and soon she finds herself at a point of no return. Together they now wanted to live a life together but there was one stumbling block - Remo!

The only possible solution for them to be with each other was Remo’s elimination. And now they gear up to execute this heinous crime!

But there is a lot more than what meets the eye. The crime happens but it is Sunny who suffers most. Reason? Sofie double crosses him and he is pronto found behind the bars!

What was the reason behind the series of events? What did Sunny do wrong to be double crossed by Sofie? Was Remo seeing something like this coming his way? And what was Sidharth’s role in this entire episode?

Last but not the least, who really was Sofie? And why was she doing this all in spite of getting all that she always wanted?

An exciting tale of love, crime and passion, ‘Raqeeb’ also stars Sherlyn Chopra in a key role along with Vishwajeet Pradhan and Vivek Shauq. With music by Pritam, the film is now gearing up for 18th May release.

Dahek - A Restless Mind
[Thursday, April 26, 2007]

Dark, like the shutdown screen of the laptop. Discreetly reflecting, displaying nothing. Jai’s [Amit Khaladkar] demeanor exhibits little but the undercurrents that run in his life are coming to the surface. He carries a deadly secret that can run lives, kill some others, and destroy him. He is like a fast ticking live bomb.

Vikram Luthra [Sharad Kapoor] is an explosive that has detonated many times, and has no way of stopping. He’s careening like a bullet towards every criminal he perceives. An inspector in the police force, he sees himself as an exterminator of criminals.

A series of mysterious and seemingly senseless murders begin happening in the city. Millions of rupees are defrauded from bank accounts to untraceable destinations. Vikram Luthra seeks the computer expert Jai’s help in the tracking of accounts….and the murderers.

But Jai has another agenda! What he doesn’t know is that even Vikram has an agenda. Something which was much more dangerous that what he could have ever imagined…or believed!

Now let us introduce other characters in this intriguing drama and mystery:

Ajay Mathur [Rajit Kapoor] - An honest businessman. A builder and a very loving father. But fate has something else in store for him. Gets betrayed by his own wife and his best friend. Finally he commits suicide.

Monalisa [Mahima Mehta] - A very conventional girl coming from a traditional family. It is her simplicity that attracts Jai. But there is something that stops them from coming closer.

Soniya [Aarti Makhijani] - An extrovert and vibrant girl. She doesn’t mind flirting with Jai. Always cheerful and forever smiling.

Sunil [Milind Gunaji] - A man who lives alone with a niece and a past which has a mystery that tears a family apart.

Rita Mathur [Usha Bachani] - A rich wife and a doting mother. Could not find love in her husband but a man who has something else planned for her. But by the time she realizes this, it is too late.

Written and directed by Arup Adhikary, DAHEK - A RESTLESS MIND has music by Debjit Bera and is expected to arrive this Friday i.e. 27th April.

“I am satisfied with my character” – Anjori Alagh

“I am satisfied with my character” – Anjori Alagh
Tuesday, April 24, 2007
Anjori Alagh daughter of well knowned actress Maya Alagh who worked in Advertisement, Feature Films & T.V programmes as well. Anjori Alagh also chose same path as her mother and made her debut in Bollywood with Baba Arts film “Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie” Produced by Ajhai Acharya and Direction by Vikram Bhatt. Few days back Anjori arrived in Hotel Metropolitian Nikko at Connaught Place, Delhi for the promotion of her first film. She shared her first experience with camera as an actress, here is synopsis………

Anjori now you are on the same path as your mother, was it your aim since your childhood?

Well, it wasn’t an aim from my childhood but yes I have done some Ad films. I used to go to my moms work place when she was doing modeling. Basically I have done Business Management from Stanford University, America. During this period I started acting as a time pass and slowly I got interest in acting, then I spoke to mom regarding this….that’s it this is the way I entered in this industry.

In first film only you have worked in a multi starer movie like “Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie”? Have you got your own space in this?

When I heard the script of “Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie” from Vikram Bhatt, I felt very happy that it’s my luck that I got a chance to work with banner like “Baba Arts” in my first film only. As far as multi starer movie is concern I think we will work a bit hard when we are working with our seniors, I did the same thing and I am very much satisfied with my work in “Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie”.

What’s your character in this movie?

In this film I am playing Ishita, who thinks that money is very thing in life.

Do you think the same thing even in your real life?

Money can only be used to fulfill our wishes but money is not everything because with money we can’t buy relations and joy.

Now a days in the film industry heroines think that exposing is essential, so what do u think about this?

I really hate exposing and I would like to be away from bold scenes. But we have to do a little bit exposing in order to be in this industry.

Now all heroines are doing item numbers so you would like to do this item numbers?

Yes, because I like dancing and infact I have already learn Kathak. So if I’ll get a chance then definitely I’ll love to do Item numbers.

With whom u wants to act and who’s your favourite director?

I would like to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Amir Khan and in director’s I would like to work with Nagesh Kuknoor because I like his films.

What kind of roles are you looking forward?

I want to do all kind of roles because it was my starting.

“List banao, sabak sikhao” – Guddu Dhanoa

“List banao, sabak sikhao” – Guddu Dhanoa

Monday, April 23, 2007
Guddu Dhanoa is a happy man. In spite of his BIG BROTHER arriving 4 years after it was announced, it has done well in single screens up North, its target audience. When number of other recent releases have failed to create any impact at the box office, Sunny Deol’s growl has surprisingly found an acceptance by his loyal fans.

BIG BROTHER took a long time to reach theaters. You must have been certainly hassled over last 4 years.

First and foremost I would like to set this misconception right about BIG BROTHER being a delayed film. A delayed film is something like just released NEHLLE PE DEHLLA which came 4-5 years after being ready for release. Whereas in case of BIG BROTHER it was hardly the case. Yes, there was a 10-day shooting which happened 4 years back but it was only in July 2006 that we resumed shooting. We shot for 62 days and it was during this period when we even re-shot the portions that we had covered for those 10 days.

But then why change the title?

For the sheer reason of film not sounding stale. The world was aware that Guddu Dhanoa and Sunny Deol had started work on DEODHAR GANDHI years back and it made sense to rename it to BIG BROTHER to give it a fresh approach. The title is quite relevant to the character played by Sunny too.

Priyanka Chopra doesn’t look quite fresh though. It seems her scenes have been retained from her earlier shooting days.

Hardy the case. She is on screen what she was last year when the film was being shot. Though the film obviously is centered on Sunny’s character, she has done well in what is required from a leading heroine in an action film like this.

What prompted you to stick on to the subject in spite of such a delay?

The subject is very close to my heart. I wanted to raise certain issues on screen which we read on newspapers or hear on news channels but hardly react. Yes, we get angry but then for how long? A day gets over and we move on to something different. There were so many issues that were getting internalized in me and I wanted that anger to come out through my film.

Do you want to elaborate on these issues?

Has it ever made sense to you why some people love to pelt stones on a moving train? Or throw acid on unsuspecting females? Molest young kids? Throw their families out of home? These are some of the things that have made me angry over the years. I discussed the same with Sunny Deol and the idea about making the film came up.

Why Sunny?

See, even my film’s tagline says that ‘Every Family Has A Hero’. Now this hero could be a brother, a father, a sister or a wife – could be just about anyone. Aisa kyi hota hai har ghar mein jisse lagta hai ki agar yeh hai toh sab theek ho jaayega! The family in my film has such a hero in the form of Sunny Deol.

Isn’t it disappointing to see the film not getting a good multiplex release?

The film did deserve a multiplex audience but I am happy to see it faring so well at single screens, especially up north. I love to cite an example of VIVAH here. The film’s success has to be attributed more to single screens that multiplexes. Look at the way it is running even after 23 weeks. Tell me how many of the theaters showing it are multiplexes? I am confident about my film and sure that single screens would get distributors their moolah back.

Fans of your films are missing those car crashes and other stunts in BIG BROTHER.

[Laughs] Kya Karen? Earlier people used to get into theaters to watch these stunts. Now they don’t go in at all of they get to know that a film is full of such stunts. Times have changed. This is the reason why there are more of hand to hand fights in the film than flying cars!

Last but not the least, the film is said to be too violent.

I fail to understand why a Guddu-Sunny film is branded as an out-and-out action film in spite of emotional moments being the backbone of the script. Look at ZIDDI, SALAAKHEN – each of them had an emotional undercurrent but somehow media loves to slot our pair as the one which only gives high-on-action flicks. Yes, here too Sunny gets angry but with a purpose. His mantra is – Jo sab issues create karte hain, un sabki list banao aur sabak sikhao!

Good Boy Bad Boy - When Rajan swapped with Raju
[Wednesday, April 18, 2007]

In the early 90s, there was a sudden splurge in the campus movies being made following the success of films like ‘Dil’, ‘Jaan Tere Naam’ and ‘Khiladi’. The momentum slowed down towards the end of the decade with the genre becoming almost extinct in the 21st century as hardly a film or two based on campus lives are being made in Bollywood every year.

2007 now sees a campus film coming from the production house of Subhash Ghai that goes by the name of ‘Good Boy Bad Boy’. A film that tackles the values of education and the system that prevails, GBBB is a light hearted comedy centered on two characters - one who is a ‘Good Boy’ and the other who is a ‘Bad Boy’.

Let’s introduce both of them to you.

Rajan Malhotra [Tusshar Kapoor] is a quintessential good boy studying in a college. For him, life is books and books are his life. The only aim in his life to study hard and make sure that he is the best when it comes to being educated.

Devoid of all the fun in life that comes as a part of campus deal, his only moments of fun are when he is immersed in studies. So much so that even his parents are worried about his lack of interest in anything that is related to sports or other extracurricular activities.

In nutshell - A complete bookworm!

As anyone would have guessed it by now, the bad boy out here in the college, Raju Malhotra [Emraan Hashmi] is a complete opposite. For him, life is having fun and fun is his life. The only aim in his life to play hard and make sure that he is the best when it comes to being the most popular and the best prankster.

Devoid of all the studies in life that come as a part of campus deal, his only moments of fun are when he is out there with his friends. So much so that his dad is worried about his lack of interest in anything that is related to studies.

In nutshell - A complete prankster!

So these are for you - Rajan and Raju!

Looking at bringing reforms in the college through his indigenous ways is its Principal [Paresh Rawal]. He comes with novel means to ensure discipline in the campus.

He splits up the college into two halves - One for the GOOD, another for BAD!

Though it was quite obvious that Rajan would get into the ‘good’ half of the college wheras Raju would lead straight into the ‘bad’ half, the obvious didn’t quite happen. As luck would have it, their files get swapped.

And lo! Rajan finds himself amidst the bad crowd while Raju is trapped amongst everyone in the college who is good.

And the fun begins!

For Rajan, it is quite a cultural shock to be studying with those youngsters for whom books were a taboo. On the other hand Raju could not resist tear his hair in frustration as he had hardly anyone left to have fun with.

In their lives enter a ‘bad girl’ [Tanushree Dutta] and a ‘good girl’ [Isha Sharvani] respectively. And with them, the lives were never the same again for Rajan and Raju!

What follows from hereon is a series of fun events which didn’t just bring about a change in the personalities of both Rajan and Raju but also educated everyone about the real meaning of education.

Directed by Ashwini Chaudhary who has to his credit sensitive films like ‘Dhoop’ and ‘Siskiyaan’, ‘Good Boy Bad Boy’ sees him trying his hand at a different genre. With music by Himesh Reshammiya, the film is touted to be a laugh riot and is slated for a May 11 release.
