MP3-Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar - Remember your first love?
[Monday, May 28, 2007]

Now this is a story that would be relevant for every person reading this preview. After all each of us have fallen in love at least once in our lifetimes, even though it may have been one sided. But it is impossible to forget the feeling that came with that of first love. The one which is termed as ‘pehla pehla pyaar’!

The same happened to Rohan [Ruslaan] and Ayesha [Hazel] as well!

Young students at a school, Rohan and Ayesha realised the sweet and bitter moments that came with love. And as they spent time together they realized what they meant to each other.

Rohan was a sweet looking guy who loved sports more than his classes. This is why he could be found more on the field than at the classes. Not that he was a brat; he certainly wasn’t. But for him, his sports and sleep came above everything else. A rich guy with a clear heart and conscience, he had a loving family and a friend named Sudhir.

On the other hand Ayesha too was a sweet girl who could melt anyone’s heart with just a smile. A beautiful girl who was upfront and true every time, she shared a close bond with her working mother. Innocent and very bright at studies, for her everything in the world was pure. It was such purity that she sensed in Rohan as she met him in her school.

Soon the two realized that they had a connection from the past. Incidentally their mothers were friends in school which only helped the two come closer and understand each other better. After few sweet-n-naughty moments together, the two found themselves in love.

Just when love seemed to blossom between the two in a big way, a tiff happened as Ayesha found herself being hurt by Rohan’s ego and excessive sleep! She left to France with heavy heart with tears in her eyes

Of course Rohan couldn’t allow this to happen to his love….and his life. Unable to realize that his beloved was unhappy with him and was hurt, he took a step. A major one that that!

He decided to go to Paris and that too secretly, and woo his Ayesha back!

A sugar-n-saccharine teen love story directed by Robbie Grewal, who has earlier directed Sushmita Sen starrer SAMAY, MP3 - MERA PEHLA PEHLA PYAAR has music by Ashu-Dhruv and is expected to arrive all over on June 08.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Kya Masti Kya Dhoom
[Monday, May 28, 2007]

There have been love triangles. And there also have been love quadrangles. More often than not, such stories involving love are enriched with dollops of emotions, sentiments and tears.

But JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM is different.

It is a love quadrangle, yes, but it gets a treatment as any feel good light hearted entertainer coming from the stable of Yash Raj Films is expected to get. With loads of fun, smiles, laughter, hungama, music, song and dance, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM is the third directorial outing for Shaad Ali who has SAATHIYA and BUNTY AUR BABLI to his credit.

This quadrangle is about Rikki [Abhishek Bachchan]-Anaida [Lara Dutta] and Alvira [Prety Zinta]-Steve[Bobby Deol]. Or is it Rikki-Alvira and Anaida-Steve? Well, we will come to that later!

Rikki is a street-smart guy? Or shall we call city smart chap? For him, living life is simple - Help people out with what they want and fill up your own pocket. Even if that means getting into illegal activities involving pirated DVDs, antiques, properties and hold-on, even getting into deals involving second hand fridges! For him no work is big or small. It is the way to do it and the gain it gets which is big or small.

Hailing from Punjab and lodging himself in Southall, he looks at ruling over the city. And it is not just the intrinsic skills he has which makes him do so. No, instead it is his sheer so-called-belief of immense class he has that makes him believes so. And by the way, one look at his looks, body language, mannerisms, wardrobe and the talk and one would love to look into the dictionary to get an actual meaning of class!

A female who is completely opposite to him is Anaida. An Assistant Manager at The Ritz Hotel, Paris, she had the finesse that every woman working at a top position in hospitality industry is expected to carry. A smart-working woman, she had a soft heart that made her cry when Princess Diana died after she left The Ritz for the last time! She also gave her heart away to Rikki in their very first few meets as they sung, dance and made merry together!

Well, the same was soon to happen to Alvira too. But then who was Alvira? She was a Pakistani Brit who was more Brit that any regular Brit and was less Pakistani that anyone could ever imagine. Promising herself in the childhood days itself that one fine day she would marry a ‘gora’, she loved the class of Brits and adored them on her job as a Manager at the House of Frasers.

Carrying a Princess attitude throughout and looking for her Prince charming to sweep her away, she did meet one eventually. No, it was not Rikki. It couldn’t be. Instead it was Steve, a millionaire and immensely rich joint partner of London’s reputed Singh & Smith Law firm. With deadly looks and personality, courtesy a Brit mother and a Punjabi father, Steve was what any girl would have wanted. And Alvira wasn’t any ordinary female. For her, Steve was the one made for her and soon they did find themselves in each others arms. Not conventionally, but through an accident. They met at Madame Tussaud’s where Steve saved her from a falling Superman model. They were in each other’s arms, only dreaming to stay the same way forever.

Well, almost!

Rikki and Alvira ended up meeting each other at London station where they were waiting for their finances to arrive. To spend those two hours of waiting, they ended up talking to each other about their respective to-be-partners! And life was never the same again for them! Getting attracted to each other, they were getting into a complicated situation.

Thank goodness that they were not alone! Because in the train, Anaida and Steve were going through the same emotions!

The question for every heart was to decide one of the two they wanted to pair up with. And destiny was making them dance to it’s tune. It was time for some masti, maza and dhoom! This is why the song that played on was - jhoom barabar jhoom!

With a pulsating score by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and lyrics by Gulzar saab, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM releases all over on June 15th.

Awarapan - A life that never had a reason to be
[Friday, May 25, 2007]

A life that was lived without purpose, without heart, without soul and without an existence
A life from which the reasons were snatched away
A life that never had a reason to be

Shivam [Emraan Hashmi] was one such young man who searched for a reason to live. And lost. And soon found himself on the route which had only one journey - Awarapan.

He had a past.

A past so dark, painful and full of sorrow that all he wanted was to forget it forever
A past that made him find his love and loose it
A past that saw him loosing it all

And now the only job he had for him was to serve his Hong Kong based boss Malik [Ashutosh Rana]. Malik, gangster and an owner of a chain of hotels, had an assignment set out for Shivam - keep an eye and protect his mistress Reema [Shreya Saran].

Reema, a girl so innocent and lovely, that she could melt the strongest of hearts. Pakistani by origin, she was bought by Malik in the flesh market of Bangkok where she had arrived as a result of human trafficking.

Once with Reema, Shivam saw his life taking a strange turn. A turn that was unseen and unexplained. Looking at Reema made Shivam remember the life he once lived, the love he once had, the peace he once found in himself.

He found himself getting attracted to her even though he realized what Reema meant for Malik. Confused and a little apprehensive, he had to make a decision before realization struck in the cruelest of manners.

Reema already had a secret boyfriend tucked away in a closet and all she wanted was to use Shivam in escaping from Malik’s clutches.

Shivam was trapped from all ends - a love that never was; a loyalty that could take the life of his love and his own ‘awarapan’ which was leading his life to nowhere.

What would he do?

Would he go all out to get the love he wanted?
Would he let his love go away to the one she loved?
Would he force his love to get back to the cruel world of Malik?

Or would he do something else that no one could ever guess and see it coming?

Extensively shot in Hong Kong and Bangkok, AWARAPAN is a story that has it’s complex shades, complex situations and complex emotions, all of which result in amalgamation of love, passion, loyalty, revenge and an ultimate betrayal.

Also starring Mrinalini and Rehan Khan, AWARAPAN is the fourth film of Mohit Suri after a hat trick of successes in the form of ZEHER, KALYUG and WOH LAMHE. With music by Pritam, AWARAPAN is expected to be yet another musical success for the Bhatts who have seldom gone wrong with their films. Released by STUDIO 18 in the overseas market, AWARAPAN sees a global release on June 29, 2007.

The Train - It’s not just about adultery
[Thursday, May 17, 2007]

There have been hundreds of films about relationship between a man and a woman
There have been countless films about love triangles
There have been dozens of films on adultery

And now comes one film that has its base set in relationships, has a kind of never-seen-before love triangle and last but not the least has it’s germ in adultery.

And all of this comes together with an integral part of their lives - THE TRAIN!

THE TRAIN that makes Vishal Dixit [Emraan Hashmi] meet a complete stranger Roma [Geeta Basra]
THE TRAIN that creates a distance between Vishal and his wife Anjali [Sayali Bhagat]
THE TRAIN that brings Vishal to a junture that changed his life forever

Vishal and Anjali were married for long but the initial spark between the two was missing. Living in Bangkok, Vishal had a decent job, a good house and a beautiful 5 year old daughter. What lacked though was the passion that had glued together Vishal and Anjali in the past.

This is when Roma came into the life of Vishal…in a train.

Glances were exchanged, moments were shared, subtle expressions of desire became visible and suppressed passion, lust and desire of years erupted like a volcano.

This was a journey which moved on a fast track but unlike a train it wasn’t meant to stop at a station. Instead what it faced was a dark tunnel that didn’t open into a clear world ahead. Instead what it faced an unsuspecting blockage that came out of nowhere and now threatened to bring it off the tracks.

This unsuspecting blockage was a mysterious caller who seemed to know everything about what Vishal did, when did he meet Roma, what was the kind of relationship Roma had with Vishal and last but not the least, the identity of Roma who was already married to a man who had never loved her!

Vishal and Roma were trapped. And there seemed to be no respite ahead. All this while Anjali too had her apprehensions building up as she could sense Vishal’s suspicious behaviour.

Tired of living a life that didn’t give him any happiness and now threatened to take away everything that he ever had, Vishal now decides to take an ultimate step. He wants to remove this blockage forever from the tracks and bring his journey to a halt forever.

But how would he do that? Or would he ever be able to do that? Especially in a world which wasn’t quite aware about the identity of this mysterious caller!

Also starring Asseem Merchant, Anant Mahadevan, Suresh Menon and Rajat Bedi, THE TRAIN boasts of a chartbuster track of Mithoon with lyrics by Sayeed Quadri. Directed by Hasnain Hyderabadwala and Rakhsa Mistry, THE TRAIN is a dramatic thriller that takes the game of adultery to a different level altogether.

“I am analogous to a ‘maachis-ki-teeli’ in ECKLL” – Neha Dhupia

“I am analogous to a ‘maachis-ki-teeli’ in ECKLL” – Neha Dhupia
Wednesday, May 16, 2007
Neha Dhupia is standing at an exciting juncture of her career. After a much appreciated performance in ‘Chup Chup Ke’ last year, she wasn’t seen much in the months that followed. Her recent release ‘Delhii Heights’ may have proved to be a dud at the box office but none could deny the fact that Neha had given a mature performance in the film, hence showing a different facet of hers when it came to sensitive portrayal of an urban working woman.

She would be seen again on the big screen as her ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’ finally hits the marquee this Friday. Joginder Tuteja catches up with her to check her reaction on the eventual release of the film.

Finally one of your favorite projects is arriving on screen. Relieved?

[Laughs] Relieved, excited and also a little nervous. It is a different feeling altogether when a film of yours comes on screen for which you have worked so hard and seen it growing in front of you with every passing month. It has been a 2 year wait but certainly worth it.

You seem to have stuck to Sanjay Khanduri, the film’s director, through the toughest of moments.

And that’s because he is so talented and has made a fantastic film. Believe me; you won’t feel that is someone who is debuting with the film. Even when the first schedule of the film was on, I could feel that Sanjay is someone who could possibly have an experience of directing 10 films, of not more.

But what’s so special about his direction?

The fact that he is a great narrator. I remember when he first narrated the subject to me. As soon as he was through, I said that I was on. There was no money discussed, there were no date hassles either. I made my date diary open and asked him to tell me when we wanted to begin shooting. So exciting has the project been that I can’t wait for the final product to arrive on screen.

Didn’t the wait make you impatient?

No, because we are so confident about the product that we have made. There are some films where you can just sense that things have turned out to be quite well and would be accepted by the audience. ECKLL is one of them.

How exciting is quite character?

[Smiles] She is analogous to a ‘maachis-ki-teeli’ in the film. You never know when she would flare up and ignite the entire proceeding! She is the one who is responsible for some big time twists in the plot. You have to wait and watch for the film but I am sure that both the film and the character I play are going to excite and surprise you in a big way.

Well, you did surprise in ‘Chup Chup Ke’ last year! Many wouldn’t have guessed you to have gain appreciation in a film that had Kareena Kapoor in lead.

Yes, I have got some fabulous feedback ever since the film’s release. In fact when Priyadarshan told me that I was to star in this film, I was a little apprehensive. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena were the main leads and I wasn’t sure what would I be doing in a film also considering the fact that there was no romantic track featuring me involved.

So what convinced you?

Priyadarshan told me that I would have a prominent part to play in the film and would have lots of dialogues to mouth. [Laughs] Little did I know that this was because Kareena played a mute character in the film and hence I was doing all the speaking. Jokes apart, I am happy that the film got me noticed and is still being remembered.

You were also noticed in the item song ‘Fida Huye’ in ‘Nehlle Pe Dehlla’. Seriously Neha, what made you opt for it?

Nothing much actually. Bhushan Kumar asked me to feature in this promotional number and the kind of standing he has in the industry, it is easier to say yes to him than say no [smiles]. So I just went ahead and shot for the song.

Coming back to ECKLL, you do have a hit track ‘Laree Choote’ to your name now.

That’s right and I am so glad that a promotional track featuring me and Abhay was picturised for the film. It is a beautiful track with an innovative choreography. I am sure it would be played on for months to come. There is another sweet track called ‘Bheegi Seeli Si’ by Ankur. It has that nice love ballad feel to it that adds on to the repeat value.

So what are the kind of films you are looking forward to be a part of?

Films that tell a new story and film makers who think in a forward direction. This is why some of these newcomers have impressed me so much because they have this forward thinking capability, something which I dread when it comes to a few so-called-established film makers.
