Victoria No. 203 - The chase begins again
[Monday, August 27, 2007]

OCEANS 11, 12 and 13 may have made one believe that heist thrillers are back in vogue. But the fact is that they were never out of circulation. Whether it was 50s, 60, 70, 80, 90s or the current century, audience has always been enthralled by thrillers that have involved a heist, especially involving diamonds. Hence it hardly comes as a surprise when 70s comic thriller VICTORIA NO. 203 is revived and presented in it’s modern avtar.

There is an exhibition of some of the rarest and exquisite diamonds in the world. Worth more than 100 crores, these diamonds are now the object of desire for Bobby Bombata [Javed Jaffrey], a multi millionaire industrialist, his moll Devyani [Preeti Jhangiani], a burglar Tora [Tora Khasgir], her brother Karan [Rajesh Khera], a criminal Ranjit [Kamal Sadanah], a diamond expert Jimmy [Jimmy Sheirgill] and last but definitely not the least, two small-time-but-quite-old crooks Raja [Anupam Kher] and Rana [Om Puri].

The girl who is driving their object of desire in her horse carriage Victoria No. 203 around the town? Sara [Sonia Vinod Mehra].

So how did it all start?

Bobby Bombata wanted these diamonds as a part of his collection at all costs and for this he hires the services of Tora to do the impossible. She does the impossible but in the process gets killed by Ranjit. She still doesn’t let go of the diamonds and hides them in, where else, but Victoria No. 203.

A helping hand comes in the form of Raman, driver of the carriage, but police arrest him on charges of attempted murder and Victoria is close to being abandoned.

Well, that doesn’t quite happen as Raman’s daughter Sara, otherwise a call center trainee, takes it on her to get her father freed and for that starts driving Victoria through the city of Mumbai.

One of her many passengers of the day turns out to be Jimmy who doesn’t take time in falling in love with her. Nonetheless, it turns out later that he too had an agenda of his own.

But were these the only players in the game? No! Because the most interesting angles to the story were still to be revealed - Raja and Rana. While Raja loved ’shabaab’ and ’sharaab’, Rana was more sober and focused on work.

Their work? Small time thefts, conning people and being in and out of jail!

Standing up for each other in the toughest of situations, they now were in lookout of their biggest prize catch ever - Diamonds that were worth 100 crores!

Who will be the first to catch hold of the diamonds? And who will own them eventually? And last but not the least, were the diamonds really in Victoria?

Directed by Anath Mahadevan, this comic caper is produced by Kamal Sadanah and has been readied in quick time. With music by Viju Shah, the film is getting readied for an August 31st release.

Dhamaal - A promising ride
[Monday, August 27, 2007]

Male bonding is truly in. If the three men were not good enough in HEYY BABYY, there is an addition of two more in this week’s comic caper DHAMAAL that stars as many as five male leads. And guess what, there is no leading lady in the film!

DHAMAAL is about an absolute ‘dhamaal’ that is created in a non stop rollercoaster ride that Roy, Aditya, Manav and Boman take. And hot on their trail is a cop named Kabir Nayak.

Roy [Ritiesh Deshmukh] always believed that he was the smartest detective ever born on this side of the planet. Overconfident but an out and out idiot, Roy could in fact not get even one thing right and instead of solving a case, only turned it into even more complicated.

He also had to content himself with a pair of brothers who had their own shortcomings. Adi [Arshad Warsi], unlike Roy didn’t consider himself as a great detective. Instead he projected himself as a great singer. The only truth here being that he was never the voice behind the songs he used to sing; it was that of a tape which played whenever he wanted to gain people’s attention.

Adi’s younger brother Manav [Javed Jaffrey] was a loser too. An over grown kid who could hardly keep a secret to himself, he had a habit of speaking too much and too quick. So much so that it led him from one trouble to another, hence creating an absolute ruckus in whatever he did and wherever he went.

To add more misery to the tale, there was Boman [Ashish Chowdhry] who could get scary with anything and everything. Always getting scolded by his father [Asrani], he was an element of fun for his friends who couldn’t help but mock him. A young man, he was the closest cousin that trouble ever had!

Roy, Adi, Manav and Boman - Together they were small time conmen and just the perfect recipe of disaster and ‘dhamaal’. But wait there is more - Inspector Nayak. Kabir Nayak [Sanjay Dutt].

An inspector who had been hunting for a criminal named Bose [Prem Chopra] for ten years, he did nab him, but dead! Around the dead body were the usual suspects - Roy, Adi, Manav and Boman. But before his death, Bose had told the foursome a secret which could change their lives forever. As Kabir questions them, the cat is thrown out of the bag even as they all make their escape from Kabir’s clutches!

A chase follows and the five of them start running towards their ultimate goal. What was this goal?

Join the fun as DHAMAAL promises to stick to it’s title and ensure a ride that is made of gags, laughter and thrills.

Directed by Indra Kumar, DHAMAAL releases all over on 7th September.

RGV Ki Aag - Arrival of evil
[Monday, August 27, 2007]

Evil comes in many shapes and sizes.
Evil could be within or outside you. Evil could be mortal or immortal. Evil could be a human being or an external force.
Evil could be BABBAN!

Because Babban [Amitabh Bachchan] was someone who was far more than just an average human being. He was psychotic, he was ruthless and as he believed, he was immortal. He was also someone for whom no other human being was worthy enough to stand in front of him, look into his eye and build a conversation.

With an unmatched animal instinct, he was a force which could well be undefeated. But Inspector Narsimha [Mohanlal] though otherwise. For him, Babban was just another criminal. A criminal who was mad for sure but not invincible.

An encounter specialist, he had once arrested Babban. And now he wanted him dead. Dead, because Babban was out of jail and given him scars which could only be washed away with Babban’s blood.

To aid him in his revenge, Narsimha roped in two small time crooks Heero [Ajay Devgan] and Raj [Prashant Raj]. The two being childhood buddies, they were inseparable and now aimed at making it big in the city of Mumbai. Little were they aware that they would soon be getting into a game which would make them juggle between life and death.

In this tough journey of their, they found the love of their life though. While Heero found Ghunghroo [Nisha Kothari], an unspoken bond developed between Raj and Durga [Sushmita Sen]. Ghughroo was everything that a man may ‘not’ want! Almost tom boyish in her persona, she was a huge Rajnikanth fan and an auto driver to boast. Loud mouth, over confident and coming with an ‘I-Care-A-Damn’ attitude, she was soon won over by Heero.

On the other hand Durga Devi was what one considers as an epitome of womanhood. With a massive tragedy behind her, she could have been one broken soul. But it had only made her stronger. Stronger enough to make sure that the person who did this to her and her family was not spared.

Battlelines were drawn. At one end there was Narsimha along with Heero and Raj while on the other there was Babban with his equally evil aide Tambhe [Sushant Singh].

A fierce battle was about to begin. A battle which would have no rules, no timelines and no conclusion except death. A battle which would involve fear, blood and ‘aag’!

Releasing all over on 31st August all over, RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG also stars Urmila Matondkar in a special appearance as ‘Mehbooba’.

Thursday, August 16, 2007
With Pooja Bhatt’s film ‘Jishm’ John Abraham turned a super star from a model. It seems audiences are waiting for another John in the film Industry and they can find him soon as Pooja Bhatt’s Dhokha is releasing on 31st of this month. Don’t be confused, thing is that in this movie also Pooja introducing a dynamic model Muzzamil as Hero. He is the winner of Gladrags Mega Model Manhunt contest nd worked in add films and popular music videos. We had an interesting chat with him regarding his upcoming release “Dhokha”-

How you got the opportunity in film ‘Dhokha’?

Director Pooja Ji has seen me in music videos. One lucky day phone call came from her office that she wants to meet me. I met her and after a formal chat she told me that she choose me has hero for ‘Dhokha’.

Can you tell us who is deceives whom in this film story as its named Dhokha?

Dhokha is a tale of an Honest, Dynamic Inspector, his life partner literally deceives him to throw his life into chaos.

According to a buzz in industry, this film is having some of the tang of Mahesh Bhatt’s films like Arth, Saraansh, Zakhm etc. what do you say about this?

Yes, because the script is by Mahesh Ji, will be appreciated by audiences. One can remember some of Mahesh Bhatt’s movies.

How was your work experience with director Pooja Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt?

It was nice experience; Mahesh Bhatt Ji is renowned in industry for his skill which brings out the acting even out of a hard core rock. I respect him a lot and have very cordial relations with him. As far as Pooja Ji is concern she is excellent as a director.

There is a buzz among audiences and experts that, after this release your career will be brighter than John Abraham. What’s reaction to this compliment?

Oh really, if it is true then it will be my luck if I become like John, because he is a star now. Of course we have come from the same profession modeling.

Tell us some thing about your career as model for Add Films, Music videos?

I worked for Bolero, Onida, Bombay Dying, Active Juice, Feast Chocolate etc. Apart from these add films I worked with Rakhi Sawant for “Pardesiya Ye Sach hai Piya” music video, and for Lucky Ali’s album one song “Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai” and these were appreciated a lot by the audiences.

Before Dhoha have you learnt any course to enhance your acting skills?

No, Mahesh Ji suggested me not to go for any course because he believes that, a person who is not aware of acting is like plan paper and one can write what ever they want. It is very easy to get acting done from a fresher.

If you get success as actor, would you like to continue with modeling?

Absolutely not, because modeling is my first love and passion I can not leave it.

Which kind of movies you would like to choose?

Now I can’t be choosy about my characters as this is my first film and releasing by end of this month, let me see the response of audience first.

Darling - Some love stories don’t die

Darling - - Some love stories don’t die
[Wednesday, August 08, 2007]

Have you ever been in love? Of course you must have been! But have you ever been in love with a ghost? Or rather has a ghost ever loved you?

Well, ask Aditya [Fardeen Khan] and he would perhaps live to tell this tale. It wasn’t because he was in trouble for being in love with two women. His worries were bigger because he was now being loved by a ghost who was once the woman in his life!

How did it all start? Well, here we go…

A working man, Aditya had a kind of life which was almost perfect. A successful career was complimented by a traditional, yet beautiful wife [Isha Kopikar] at home. What else could a man really ask for?

Aditya did ask for more. And he had to pay for it big time for what he got..

He got a stunning secretary at office with whom he could spend his time outside home. She was a sensual female [Esha Deol] who could drive any man crazy.

Now she would drive Aditya mad for the rest of his life. What made her take this drastic step?

It was all going well for Aditya. He was loved by his wife and his girlfriend. He loved them both too. Until Esha became pregnant! Now she wanted Aditya to leave his wife behind and marry her instead. It was a tough call for Aditya to take. He couldn’t even imagine doing so because he had never once given it a thought.

Esha couldn’t take her refusal lightly and in an argument that followed, she got killed in an accident.

Scared, Aditya didn’t have an option but to get rid of her body. He did so successfully and returned back to the peace of his life…his wife! All seemed to be well for him from now on. Well, almost!

For Aditya it seemed like end of story. But was it really?

In fact the story had just begun. Because Esha returned. And returned with a vengeance. She had become a ghost and what she wanted was revenge!

Did her revenge meant getting hold of Aditya? Or did it mean killing him as well? Worse, did she have another deadly plan in mind?

Was she really the ‘darling’ that Aditya had once loved?

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, ‘Darling’ is a co-production of Varma and T-Series with Pritam giving the music. Himesh Reshammiya is the guest composer. The film is aiming for a September release.
