Ghajini’s director A R Murgadoss was illegally detained following a complaint from the film’s producer A Chandrasekharan. The film which stars Aamir Khan is being remade in Hindi but according to the producer, Murgadoss did not buy the rights of Ghajini from him before going ahead with the remake. Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi intervened as Murgadoss’s arrest was not followed by any legal formalities. Following this Salem crime Inspector Krishnan was suspended. The police team had picked up Murgadoss from Chennai on Friday, following a complaint filed by Chandrasekharan. However, as news of the arrest spread, the police panicked as no legal formalities had been followed by Krishnan and his team before taking Murgadoss to Salem. On the intervention of senior police officials, Murgadoss was released late in the night and Tamil Nadu DGP P Rajendran suspended Salem crime Inspector Krishnan on Saturday.

Khan’s directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par, swept the Filmfare awards winning him Best Director and Best Picture. Held at the posh Yash Raj studios in north Mumbai, the glitzy event was co-hosted by best buddies Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. Most of the Bollywood elite attended including the Bachchans with Aishwarya Rai. Why did Aamir’s film win and not Filmfare’s golden boy Shah Rukh Khan, nominated twice for his Chak De! India and Om Shanti Om? Even a perfectionist like Aamir Khan couldn’t resist the charm of the new rage Ranbir Kapoor. Aamir might have his share of disagreements with Sanjay Leela Bhansali over his film Black but he definitely seems impressed with Bhansali’s discovery Ranbir Kapoor ,who Bhansali launched in Saawariya. Aamir is all set to sign Ranbir for his next venture Delhi Belly which will be directed by Swedish director Robert Nylund and will be made in English. Our source reveals, “Aamir was very keen to sign Ranbir for Delhi Belly and spoke to him. The director Robert has already met him and Ranbir has loved the script. He has given his go-ahead for the film and will be signing the film soon.” The source further says, “Aamir Khan will not be starring in the film which is an action comedy, set in the backdrop of Delhi. Although initially Aamir was very keen to play the role of a character called Nitin in the film, later he excused himself from the film as he plans to go on a vacation with son Junaid and daughter Aira after completing the shooting of Ghajani.” The film is set to go on the floors in a couple of months and a substantial part of the cast and crew will be imported from Hollywood for it.
It is a well-known fact that post the criticism and brickbats that Dharamesh Darshan’s MELA (2000) received, Aamir Khan has become extremely selective. And that has turned out to be a correct and career defining decision, seeing Aamir’s almost cent per cent success record (barring an average MANGAL PANDEY). While RAJA HINDUSTANI netted around 50 crores from India, the only recent Aamir movie to break that long standing record is Yash Raj’s FANAA (2006), which netted close to 55 crores from India (without Gujarat). The good news is that Aamir Khan’s directorial debut venture, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, has surpassed FANAA and is likely to end its run with around 60 crores, just from India. The latest buzz in the tinsel town is that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has turned down Shankar’s ROBOT, featuring the South megastar, Rajnikanth. The reason being given is that Aishwarya, who is doing only selective projects, wanted a remuneration in the range of 5 crore plus, which was denied. However, no reliable source has confirmed or contradicted the same. As may be recalled, Shankar whose last film with Rajnikanth, SIVAJI -THE BOSS, was a blockbuster (both in South as well as Overseas), had first offered the lead role to Shah Rukh Khan. The project did not take off with SRK due to creative differences regarding the script. The next we heard was that Aamir Khan was offered ROBOT, but refused it and Shankar then went back to his trusted lieutenant, Rajnikanth. However, Aamir Khan has categorically denied that he was ever offered the 100 crore ROBOT! The actor perfectionist also advised that people should concentrate on his next release, the GHAJINI remake, instead of baseless rumours.
