Kajol surprises Ajay on B’day

Once tipped as the ‘action hero’ of Indian cinema, versatile Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who turned 39 Wednesday, has proved his mettle in every genre. This year, he also turns director with “U, Me Aur Hum”.

Ajay got an early birthday gift Tuesday when his entire family landed up on the sets of Zee TV’s reality show “Rock N’ Roll”, which he is hosting with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja. The family arrived to cut a cake with him.

His parents Veeru and Veena Devgan, sisters Neelam and Kavita and his nephew Aman were part of the entourage.

“I was pleasantly surprised, considering my parents never go on television. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I’ve ever received,” said Ajay.

After a successful acting career spanning 16 years, the actor wanted to make a film through which he told people a story he really believes in.

“People often ask me if this is the right time to venture into direction. Frankly speaking, I don’t know whether it is the right time or not, but I have always wanted to tell people a story I strongly believe in.

“I had this story idea in my mind for a long time and then I sat and wrote it down. Later when I gradually developed the screenplay, I felt that unless I directed the film myself, it would not be presented the way I want it to be,” Ajay told.

Even before he started off as an action hero in the 1991 hit film “Phool Aur Kaante” for which he won the Filmfare award for best debutant actor, Ajay had worked with internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as an assistant director.

Bollywood star Ajay Devgan writes a column

bollywood star Ajay Devgan writes a column Questions Ajay Devgan in an exclusive column written by him for Indiatimes Movies. People keep asking me how I decided that this was the right time to direct my own film. To be honest, I don’t really know if this is the right time or not, but I know that this is a story I wanted to tell. A story I believed in. And felt strongly about. As they say, one from the heart.
Why this particular story? I can list many reasons, but the most important, and the primary reason for me to want to make this film, is its positivity. I’ve noticed that people these days have become more cynical and less optimistic than before. They tend to naturally have a negative outlook about things. Especially with regards to love, relationships, feelings, marriage, the works. In today’s scientific world, everyone seems to be looking for tangible justifications for things they do. Even with regards to love, people spend hours theorizing about chemical reactions in the body, the impact of hormones and other such clinical things. My question is - where has all our romance gone? Why this obsession with rationale? Why do we hesitate to accept that it is possible, that deep within, one soul makes a connection with another – instinctively, impulsively, immediately?
Love at first sight. Happy marriages. Soulmates. These are concepts I believe in. I know that they exist. And as a result, they are important elements of my film.

Ajay to talk about the most important women in his life

Ajay to talk about the most important women in his lifeAfter many excuses, umpteen discussions and several angry arguments later, Ajay Devgan agrees to talk about the most important women in his life — but with “certain conditions”. He will only speak about what he’s “comfortable” with. On the occasion of Women’s Day, Ajay took time off from the dubbing of U, Me Aur Hum to talk about his mom Veena, his two sisters Neelam and Kavita, his wife Kajol and daughter Nysa. Read on… Mother: Veena
I have been very close to my mother from the beginning, I was petrified of my father (action director Veeru Devgan). My mother always supported me in whatever I did — from my turning an actor to getting married and now becoming a director. I could always tell her whatever was on my mind, I could never open up to my dad like that. Whenever I got into mischief or trouble as a child, and in my youth, mom saved me from dad’s ire. When I fell in love, she knew about it too. She was happy just because I was happy. She guides mewhen she feels I am wrong. My mom’s been my friend, philosopher and guide. Even today, I can talk to her about anything and everything.Sisters: Neelam and Kavita

My two sisters, Neelam and Kavita, are both younger to me and I have always been very possessive and protective about them and I love them to death. They are both married and happy in life and I think I have achieved something in life, when I see them with their families. Even today, they pamper me a lot. They are always a part of our family on all occasions, and are my biggest critics. They watch all my films and always give me constructive feedback and the dos and don’ts that I try to follow.
