Lara’s going to write for herself

Scriptwriters in Bollywood aren’t writing anything in depth for a woman,” lovely Lara scoffed, “Invariably the scripts glorify the hero while the heroine is the love interest. And the women-oriented films are half-baked attempts at feminist statements. Both to me are uninspiring.”

She’s going to produce this to-be-written movie as well, but the actress draws the line at direction. “I’m not ready to direct yet. And I can’t wait to start my film. I’ve done two drafts. And I think it needs one more draft, then I’m ready,” she said.

But on her crusade for reversing the male-dominance of movies, Lara is hedging her bets and not making the movie totally female-centric. “It has equal space for the male and female protagonists. It’s not one of those feminist, in-your-face women’s films. The male lead will have a lot to contribute to my film.”

Abhishek Turns Down An Offer From Yashraj

The actor has reportedly refused an offer to play a cameo in movie by Yashraj Films. Not that Abhishek Bachchan has any problem with the elite production house, but just that he was reportedly not happy about the guest appearance he was asked to make in director Anurag Singh’s upcoming film starring Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukherjee in main roles. The movie revolves around a cricket team and has Rani playing a girl who disguises as a Sikh boy to be part of the team.Abhishek was reportedly approached to make a guest appearance as a cricketer, but the actor turned down the offer, citing date problems. The insiders say the real reason for refusing the YRF offer was that Abhishek was not happy with his role. The actor has had no qualms in playing cameos and making guest appearances in films like Lage Raho Munnabhai and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag . What Abhi reportedly did not like about his cameo in Anurag Singh’s film was that it had no importance to the script.

The movie, yet untitled, has already been dogged by controversies. It was rumoured that Rani is unhappy with Anurag’s work in the film and wants him replaced. It was also speculated that the movie might be shelved altogether. But the production house has called all these rumours baseless.

Ekta calls off 500 crore deal with Sanjay Dutt

The 500-crore Balaji Motion Pictures-Sanjay Dutt Productions alliance is now null and void. Says a source in Balaji, “In July this year, Balaji Motion Pictures and Sanjay Dutt Productions signed a nine-film deal to be realised over a three-year period at the cost of Rs 500 crore. Sanju was to act in these films and was even given a 5-crore cheque as a signing amount. Now, the deal has fallen through and he has returned the signing amount to Balaji.”
There were differences between Ekta and Sanju which led to this split. It was Ekta’s decision to call off the deal. There were major differences in the style of working of the two production houses. The professional split was catalysed by the fact that Sanjay Dutt did not publicise Balaji Motion Pictures’ last film EMI. He didn’t even make it to the promotional event. And EMI failing at the box-office really saw the end of Sanju’s deal with Kapoor’s production house. The film industry facing the heat of the current recession, is being touted as the official reason for the parting of ways between SDP and Balaji.

The source continues, “Though Balaji sold EMI to Sahara, they suffered losses too. Ekta is disgruntled about the way EMI was promoted. The lack of commitment and interest by some stars has upset her a lot. At the last EMI press conference held a couple of days before the release only Ekta and her dad were present neither Sunil Shetty (co-producer) nor Dutt showed up. Balaji wants accountability in all its operations and only wants to work with people who understand this.”

When contacted, Ekta Kapoor maintained, “Balaji has no issues with Sanjay Dutt. He’s a rockstar! I would love to cast him in my films.” The source says, “After suffering losses in Mission Istaanbul and EMI, Balaji is being very careful about the films they will produce. A CEO with an entertainment background from the corporate industry has been hired, who will take all the decisions from scripting to post-production. There will be accountability and profit-showing accounts at the end of the year.”

Katrina refuses to work with Salman’s jaani dushman Viveik!

Salman’s ladylove Katrina Kaif is packed with new releases and much to everyone’s surprise, she has readily agreed to work with Salman’s friend turned foe Shah Rukh Khan. But, she does have some exceptions. The long-legged beauty had recently sternly refused to work with Sallu’s jaani dushman Viveik Oberoi.Well, so what’s weird is the ‘fact’ that the reason of all the hullabaloo, chaos is none other than Sallu’s ex-flame, the Bachchan bahu Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. So it seems, Katrina did really seek permission prior to nodding a ‘yes’ for the SRK project. And, this is what Kats had to say in an interview to a news daily, “See, whatever happened was between the two of them. I wasn’t involved. Both have come out in the open and spoken about it to the media. But at the end of the day, they’re senior professionals from the film industry and they have been around much longer than I have.”So why the cold shoulder to Viveik?

“There’s only one person whom Salman has made his displeasure very clear about for which he has a very valid reason. I think he is very uncomfortable with his friends being around Viveik. Everyone knows about it because Salman has spoken about it.”That explains why Viveik chose to follow the SRK camp. Katrina is all set for the release of her much-awaited musical venture ‘Yuvvraaj’ opposite beau Salman. “The role is a wonderful one of a cello player. I was told to play the cello in the film like I was dancing. I moved my fingers the way I would use my feet to dance and it worked. The scenes came out great. Anyway I had a great teacher to show me how to play the instrument.”

The lovers chemistry seems to be actually working out well for movie, “It’s great to be paired opposite someone who you know and who has been close to you. This film is a little more special to me in the sense that it is looking very good. It has a good story and it is a film which I think is going to be on celluloid forever. It has the makings of a romantic classic.”Well, can’t really predict the fate of the movie, but looks like Viveik is soon to vanish from the big screen!

‘Dostana’ lands into fresh trouble in Pakistan!

Looks like, Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana’ is running into fresh trouble in Pakistan. The movie that is fashioning tremendously well at the Box Office has apparently met rejection in Pakistan for its highly objectionable gay content.

The much entertaining multi-starrer flick has won praises primarily for it’s storyline and the entertainment box’ up for an assured fun filled experience.

The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the Chairman of the Film Censor Board of Pakistan to justify the screening of the Bollywood movie ‘Dostana’ in Pakistan due to the Gay content in the movie.

‘Homosexuality’ is till-date illegal in Pakistan and a seriously punishable offence. Well, that’s a good enough reason for rejection!
