One Two Three Movie Review

123 6S.jpg
Did you ever see the comedy serial Office Office, yeah the same comedy serial who consecutively won the award for best comedy sitcom year after year. What happens when the person behind Office Office comes out with his first directorial debut movie. You expect a blast, but then Ashwani Dhir’s One Two Three not only blasts but also buries your expectations. While going out for One Two Three, keep in mind to open up your head, squeeze out your brain and stuff some hay into your empty head, because for the next three hours what you see is complete nonsense. The dialogues are good, the lifted witty one-liners were ok but the script lacked the punch. Here is the story of the movie from One Two Three’s official site:

Diamonds worth ten crores are stolen from dangerous Don, Papa. The diamonds accidentally fall in the hands of young love birds - Chandu (Upen Patel) and Chandni (Tanisha), who quickly hide them in a car. Papa and his idiotic henchmen Alberts(Vrijesh Hirjee) and Pintos (Manoj Pahva) are desperately hunting for the diamonds while hot headed police officer Mayawati Chautala (Neetu Chandra) is on the prowl looking for offenders of any kind.

Enter the first Laxmi Narayan (Tusshar Kapoor). He’s from a khandani mafia family and his mother prays that with a few murders under his belt, he will be settled for life. After botching up badly in his early attempts, he’s got a final chance to redeem himself as a Bhai. He comes to Hotel Blue Diamond, Pondicherry because he’s taken supari to bump of Papa (Mukesh Tiwari).

Enter the second Laxmi Narayan (Suniel Shetty). He’s an MBA from Darjeeling and lives his professional life by following two simple rules - 1) the boss is always right. 2) If the boss is wrong, follow rule number 1. He is sent to Hotel Blue Diamond, Pondicherry to collect a new car for his boss from Laila (Sameera Reddy).

The third Laxmi Narayan (Paresh Rawal) is a hawker who has made so much money selling underwear on the footpath, that he has set up a lingerie factory for his son. His son sends him to Hotel Blue Diamond, Pondicherry to collect lingerie samples from upcoming designer Jiya (Esha Deol).

One… 2… Three…Laxmi Narayans in the same place at the same time.
One… 2… Three…Laxmi Narayans waiting for messages at the hotel reception desk.
One… 2… Three…Laxmi Narayans getting letters and photographs meant for the other.

First Laxmi Narayan gets lingerie designer Jiya’s photo and goes to kill her, only to end up as her hero. Second Laxmi Narayan gets Papa’s photo and goes to collect the car from him, only to be mistaken for a killer and gets beaten black and blue. Third Laxmi Narayan gets Laila’s photo and asks her to show him her underwear, only to be branded an old pervert.

Meanwhile Chandu and Chandni are determined to stop anybody from buying the car where they have hidden the diamonds. But Laila has to sell the car to save her showroom. And Jiya has to sell her designs to save herself from lecherous Mende’s clutches.

One…2.. Three - A case of not one mistaken identity but three!
One…2.. Three - A crazy bunch of people doing the wrong things for the right reason!
One…2.. Three - A laugh riot from beginning to end!!

Bad things about One Two Three are bad script, bad screenplay, below average cinematography, hamming actors who fail at comedy, dumb actresses and forgettable music from Raghav Sachar. The few good things about One Two Three are: Sanjay Mishra is outstanding in his performance, Manoj Pahwa is brilliant, good editing, usage of funny sound-effects and above all the movie is a great stress buster.

Coming to the performances of other actors, Sunil Shetty is good, Paresh Rawal repeats his monotonous Hera Pheri Act (I am sick of this), Upen Patel- no comments, Mukesh Tiwari and Vrajesh Hirjee are ok, Tusshar Kapoor needs to work on his dialogue delivery, Esha Deol looks dumb, Sameera Reddy’s act is a dud (like her Race’s performance), Tanishaa is bad and Neetu Chandra overacts.

Folks don’t expect anything great from the movie and you might actually end up enjoying it, otherwise it’s a strict no-no, ‘coz the three hours spent on a dingy seat in One Two Three’s torture room can be worse than hell.

Race:Review

race
Many years ago Abbas-Mustan came out with a great hit Baazigar and made the dialogue popular, “haar k jeetne wale ko baazigar kehte hai.” Now we are not talking about SRK, here our Baazigars are none other than duo Abbas-Mustan, who recently experienced haar with duds like 36 China Town and Naqaab, and finally have struck jeet through Race.Last year Naqaab was touted as the “most shocking thriller” of the year by Abbas-Mustan but it failed miserably. But this time the duo has let their work speak for them instead of making tall claims and Race clearly stands out. Race is a total Saif and Akshay’s movie: they delivered superb performances.

The story of Race revolves around two stepbrothers Ranvir Singh (SAK) and Rajeev Singh (Akshay). The two brothers compete against each other since childhood, and as the rule goes for every game, Saif always ends up winning whereas Akshay is on the losing side. Shot extensively in South Africa, the movie is about betrayal, greed, intrigue and revenge.
Ranvir the eldest of the two brothers is a cunning businessman who is always hungry for success and owns a ranch named Stallions. He gives tough competition to his competitors and doesn’t forgive people who try to act smart with him. On the other hand Rajiv (Akshay) is a total spoilt-rich-brat who loves wine more than the family horses.

Ranvir falls head-over-heels in love with the fashion catwalk queen Sonia (Bipasha Basu). But then a thriller is incomplete without a love triangle. Ranvir’s beautiful and hot secretary is secretly in love with her, but Ranvir gives a damn to her. As expected (from the trailers) Akshay also falls in love with Bipasha, and promises to mend his ways if Bipasha accepts his marriage proposal. Saif Ali Khan like every Indian elder brother sacrifices his love for his younger bro. But then one of the brothers has evil intentions in mind, a murder is committed, and the evil brother gets to walk away with the insurance claim of whooping hundred million.

Now a murder mystery is incomplete without a detective, and we do have one in Race. Robert D’Costa aka RD (Anil Kapoor), who is always munching fruits along with his sexy dumb bimbette secretary Mini (Sameera Reddy) enters the scene of crime and try to solve the mystery of the murder. The thriller gets its dose of humor with this detective-secretary combo. Although the jokes are dumb the audience are left in splits.

The best things about Race are not one but many: Akshay’s negative performance, Pritam’s rocking music, Stunts by Allan Amin, great dialogues, good Cinematography and above all a meaningful ending.

Although the movie is glossy with many action stunts, the director reminds us of SRK’s Baazigar, when one of the brother pushes down the other from the terrace of high-rise building to his death similar to the way SRK pushes down Shilpa Shetty in Baazigar. The first half of Race, kept me glued to my seat, I could not predict easily what exactly will happen in the next scene. With lots of twists and turns, I was munching my popcorn at Rajdhani express speed wondering what is gonna happen next.

Performance wise Akshay Khanna is the best in his negative avatar, Saif Ali Khan (he should take tips on working out from his zero size girlfriend) delivers a power packed performance as an intense elder brother and shrewd businessman, rest all are mediocre. Amongst all the ladies in the movie Bipasha Basu stands out, Katrina Kaif looks strikingly beautiful but fails to strike the right acting chord, Sameera Reddy acts as the Indian version of dumb blonde and provides enough justice to her role. Anil Kapoor provides the comedy element to the movie, but his acts looks monotonous.

Overall the movie is great, can be watched once (once you know the mystery its no more fun), the ladies up the sex quotient and great powerhouse performances by Saif and Akshay. A total paisa vasool movie. Don’t forget to check out the car blast scene in the first half of the movie. I expect Race will recover its investment and break the 30 crore barrier in its first week collections itself. Go Race yourself to the theaters.

RACE takes stupendous start all over

Months after the release of OM SHANTI OM and WELCOME, a film has managed to take a stupendous opening at the box office. RACE, the film that Bollywood was looking forward to after a relative lean 2008 (that only had JODHAA AKBAR making a mark), has got audience back into the theaters.

The film has worked all over, whether A, B or C centers, and is drawing all segments of audience with family crowds as well as student community thronging the theaters. In addition, RACE has turned out to be one of those few films, which has broken single screens v/s multiplex audience and taken an exceptional opening all over.

The way things stand today, this Abbas-Mustan directed film is all set to break the 30 crore barrier when it comes to first week’s collections. If it does so (which looks quite positive as of now), RACE would only be the fourth film to do so after OM SHANTI OM (40 crores), WELCOME (35 crores) and DHOOM 2 (35 crores)!

Race to heat up Box office

Race to heat up Box officeFeaturing a young and hot star cast, like Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Anil Kapoor, the film as a lot going for it as acting talent. It has been shot in exotic locales ranging from Dubai to Durban. The multistarrer is especially notable for its action thrills. Abbas Mustan has endowed it with some characteristic adrenaline pumping action in what is being touted as their most stylish and fast paced product. It is a story of murder, deceit, adultery and theft set against the backdrop of horse racing, providing an ideal plot from the Abbas Mustan stable. “It’s a commercial film. Full of twists and turns, the plot is the hero of it. Where nothing is what it seems. It keeps you guessing and its fun,” according to Saif Ali Khan. “Race is about insurance fraud, murder, adultery, deceit, insider trading gambling, lies and racing…pretty much a normal day in Abbas Mustan’s life,” he quipped. The stunts are amazing and a veritable treat for action lovers. Action scenes have been enacted with a lot of care and planning. Saif and co-stars have had a lot of jumping to do-off buildings, vehicles etc. “To dive off a 30th floor, to me, is a big thing. But, we did it three-four times and afterwards it was fun. I enjoyed the cable work. There is a lot of falling off buildings, jumping off buildings, diving off. I think my character seems to love jumping off heights,” said Saif, Saif and his costars are pretty confident about the movie with its powerful dialogues and racy stunts. Akshay Khanna has always been lucky with Abbas Mustan. Katrina Kaif has just had a hit filled year in 2007.Action director Allan Amin is fresh from the experience of the hit Dhoom series. Composer Preetam has already hit the top spot with three songs ‘ Sanson Ki’, ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ and ‘Zara Zara’. And Saif is the man of the moment in Bollywood. The film, which will hit screens on March 21, is also being dubbed into Tamil and Telugu and will release simultaneously across the country along with the Hindi version of the film.
