Ajay is unpredictable: Kajol

It is one of the most eagerly anticipated comebacks in Bollywood. Husband and wife Ajay and Kajol Devgan are to appear together on the big screen for the first time in eight years, in ‘U, Me Aur Hum’. Hmmm, interesting! And that’s not enough. It’s Ajay Devgan’s directorial debut. Too good! But will the film live up to the over hyped expectations? Well, Kajol has the answers to the very few exclusive questions Read on…!

Q. Is Ajay going to rock the boat?

Can’t say at the moment. But I am pretty confident that the film will do well and complete the journey comfortably. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Q. Was the journey smooth throughout or were there any ‘phool aur kaante’ while filming?

(Laughs) Actually, there were few ‘kaante’s’ but we jumped over it and completed our journey quite smoothly. Hopefully, the film will blossom like a flower after its release.

Q. You and Ajay are coming back after a gap of 8 years. Wasn’t it like you were working with a new comer?

No, not at all. And we are coming back together after 7 years. Working with Ajay is always a new experience because he is so unpredictable when it comes to sharing screen space with his co-stars and even the newcomers.

Q. Having seen the promos, the film doesn’t really speak about the plot. Don’t you think people, now-a-days, see the film only if they like the promos?

If the trailer isn’t giving much away, doesn’t mean that the film is not worth watching. You throw in a song and some dialogues to make a promo. But that’s not all. I think if the people want to go and watch the film, irrespective of the promos, they will go.

Q. Kajol will always be remembered as a bubbly and a chirpy actress on screen. So what’s so different about you in U, Me Aur Hum?

Everything is. I am bubbly, chirpy and a lot more. But the lot more, you will only come to know after the film comes out.

Q. What more?

Don’t you worry. There is still more.

Q. Why Vishal Bharadwaj, an unconventional music director for a fun loving film like ‘U, Me Aur Hum’?

We took Vishal for the simple reason that he is a good music director and more importantly also a director of many films. You will love the music of the film, which you are right, is not the typical Vishal Bharadwaj music, but that’s why you’ll like it.

Q. And what have you got to say about your experience working with a new director?

The director is new. Not the person. Working with Ajay the director is to learn many things, which I haven’t, learn before from my directors. He has a different take, belief, and style of working. ‘U, Me Aur Hum’ is the trump card and not Ajay Devgan or Kajol. The film is the real hero.

‘U, Me Aur Hum’ will have mass appeal: Ajay Devgan

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan making his directorial debut with ‘U Me aur Hum,’ scheduled to release on April 11th, says his maiden project brings out the positivity of relationship between a husband and wife.
Ajay Devgan who is paired opposite his actress wife of nine years Kajol in the film says it was a simple love story about a man who marries a girl he loves and overcomes all hurdles to maintain the relationship.

Q. Why direction?

I had a thought which I felt was beautiful and I worked on the script. I found it positive and relevant in today’s life. I have tried to put forth those beautiful thoughts through humour, emotions and drama. I thought that if it is my thought, then I might be the best person to visualise and portray it.

Kajol surprises Ajay on B’day

Once tipped as the ‘action hero’ of Indian cinema, versatile Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who turned 39 Wednesday, has proved his mettle in every genre. This year, he also turns director with “U, Me Aur Hum”.

Ajay got an early birthday gift Tuesday when his entire family landed up on the sets of Zee TV’s reality show “Rock N’ Roll”, which he is hosting with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja. The family arrived to cut a cake with him.

His parents Veeru and Veena Devgan, sisters Neelam and Kavita and his nephew Aman were part of the entourage.

“I was pleasantly surprised, considering my parents never go on television. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I’ve ever received,” said Ajay.

After a successful acting career spanning 16 years, the actor wanted to make a film through which he told people a story he really believes in.

“People often ask me if this is the right time to venture into direction. Frankly speaking, I don’t know whether it is the right time or not, but I have always wanted to tell people a story I strongly believe in.

“I had this story idea in my mind for a long time and then I sat and wrote it down. Later when I gradually developed the screenplay, I felt that unless I directed the film myself, it would not be presented the way I want it to be,” Ajay told.

Even before he started off as an action hero in the 1991 hit film “Phool Aur Kaante” for which he won the Filmfare award for best debutant actor, Ajay had worked with internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as an assistant director.

I’ll work at my own pace:Kajol

She is one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood, but Kajol, who graces the screen after a gap of two years in her home production ‘U, Me Aur Hum’, says her priority is her family.

‘I am not going to do four films a year. I will work, but at my own speed,’ Kajol told on phone from Mumbai.

After marriage with Ajay Devgan in 1999, the actress cut down her film roles and was occasionally seen in hits like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘Fanaa’.

For ‘U, Me Aur Hum’, she teams up with hubby. The film, which releases April 11, marks Ajay’s directorial debut and he has written the script too.

Asked how different this film is from her other movies, the ebullient actress says: ‘Well, I hope it is not so different that it becomes a bad film (laughs). I won’t say it is different, but it is a very special film for me.’

‘While working in the film I never felt constrained. In fact, it was the other way round. I felt very comfortable and at home.’

Her debut film, ‘Bekhudi’, in 1992 did fairly well, but it was ‘Baazigar’ with Shah Rukh Khan a year later that was her first blockbuster.

She later went on to deliver some of the biggest Bollywood hits like ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ opposite Shah Rukh.

Juggling multiple roles of a wife, mother, actress and judge of a TV show, Kajol is neck deep in work. ‘Time management is a huge issue. I’m doing it with difficulty. Even a 15-minute delay makes a lot of difference. But I think it is not impossible to manage all this, you can do it.’

Commenting on the changes in the film industry in the last one decade, Kajol says this evolution is vital.

‘It is very important that things should change. We should change. You will die if you don’t change. In the last few years viewers have changed, their demands have changed, the business of cinema has changed, and with so many changes the parameters of Indian cinema has changed.’

On rumours that she has signed Karan Johar’s next venture, Kajol said: ‘I have not signed the film, but I am discussing it with him. When I sign, I will certainly let everybody know about it.’

She is having a ball as judge on Zee TV’s new reality show ‘Rock n Roll’ along with her husband and mother, actress Tanuja. ‘I’m really enjoying the reality show. There is so much positive energy,’ she said.

She has a high opinion of her fans. ‘I think we underestimate our fans. They are so level-headed and know where to draw the line. Only a very small percentage of fans go overboard.’
