Cricket is our staple diet: Malaika

/photo.cms?msid=2965958
“Amrita and Usman are going steady and my entire family is fond of Usman,” says Malaika. Malaika Arora Khan

How much of a cricket buff are you?
I love cricket like every other Indian. The game is part of our staple diet. And belonging to a cricket crazy family, I’m left with no other choice! Whenever we have time, we watch cricket in a group.

Which team are you betting your money on?
It was great watching the Knight Riders play. The team morale is high. But yes, it’s difficult to guess which team will win in the end. I think it will either be the Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai or Hyderabad team. About the Knight Riders, Shah Rukh is a great friend and I can’t help being biased towards the team.

You’ve upped the hot quotient…
(Laughs) Do you think so? It’s great to know that. The city’s really hot right now and cricket is making the mercury soar a few degrees more! I had never been to the Eden Gardens before, though I always knew that the Kolkatans are crazy about the game. I’ve also followed matches taking place at this ground on TV and always longed to be here someday. It was spectacular watching the Kol-kata audience enjoy the game. The enthusiasm knew no limits. But this time around, I was at the Eden Gar-dens just to watch the match. I wasn’t expected to shake a leg at the do.

Did you follow the number, Korbo lorbo jitbo re?
I don’t follow the Bengali lines. Can you tell me what the first line means? It’s an inspirational number and I think it’s really cool.

This time around, you aren’t accompanied by hubby Arbaaz Khan…
That’s really unfortunate. When I told him that I was coming to Kolkata, all he said was, ‘enjoy yourself’. Obviously, my entire
family wanted to be here, but everybody’s busy shooting.

What do you feel about the magnetic pull between the actors and cricketers?
That has always been there. The way cricket and entertainment have been married, why blame the people involved?

Amrita-Usman chemistry is much talked about…
They are going steady and my entire family is fond of Usman. They are the most chilled-out couple that I’ve ever come across and this I’m not saying because Amrita’s my sister. At this point of time, both of them are busy following the IPL matches and neither of them is complaining.

We don’t regret marriage prank: Malaika and Arbaaz

The shocking story on the end of one of filmdom’s most durable marriages rocked Mumbai yesterday. Turned out, it was part of a well-planned campaign to promote a line of cosmetics.

A shocking and unethical illustration of how the media is used and manipulated to generate curiosity and interest in consumer products. Malaika Arora who was part of the campaign seemed pretty uncomfortable with the situation

What is this about your marriage in serious trouble?
Nothing. All is well in paradise. No serious or even non-serious trouble in our marriage

Let me get it straight. You did this as part of advertisement campaign?
It is part of an ad campaign for a product that Arbaaz and I are launching. Rather re-launching. See, the concept of the ad is that he comes towards the end and re-proposes to me.

What was told to the press was that Arbaaz was getting remarried. I don’t know how when where they came up with the rest (of the story).

But Malaika, if you say your husband is getting re-married it wouldn’t be wrong to presume that the earlier marriage is over, no?
That’s what everyone has presumed.

Are you saying this was done with your approval?
Approval…well…the whole concept was of Arbaaz is getting re-married. I never thought that one concept would acquire these proportions.

By hook or crook…

Malaika Arora Khan with Arbaaz Khan
Celebrities and the craze to be in limelight.

To hit headlines. To create ripples even when there’s no water. It almost caomes as a package in this world of ‘Damn it, I have to be there’. Model and anchor Malaika Arora Khan and actor Arbaaz Khan did it recently when they told the media, that their ‘enduring’ marriage was on the rocks and Arbaaz is remarrying.

And you thought Indians always considered marriage as a sacred institution! Well, for money — stories can be cooked up to add lots of spice. But they are not alone. There are many celebrities who are just hankering for some television bytes, some space in the newsprint.

And then there comes alive their fling with fame. False publicity from a star to gain attention has become a matter of habit for many in Bollywood. The latest to join the gang is Sherlyn Chopra.

First she called a press conference to say that she has got a J Lo butt and even requested for a close view. And that definitely was not where she wanted to stop. After having her share of fame, she made lots of noise now about she was cast opposite Shahid Kapur in a Yash Chopra film. Sources confirmed that Shahid has been signed up opposite Rani Mukerji. Sherlyn did it just to gain mileage and some cheap publicity.

Gimmick & bear it!

/photo.cms?msid=2963526
Malaika & Arbaaz
It was sensational news – ‘rumours’ that Malaika and Arbaaz, Bollywood’s happily married couple, were headed for divorce. Turns out that there was no truth in the rumour.

It was merely a publicity stunt for a fairness cream they were launching. But was the couple fair in leading on the entire country?

A suitably penitent Malaika tells us, “The episode has affected us badly. We have been written about as publicity and money hungry. But we don’t need both these things and especially not this way. Pond’s told us that it was going to be like a stage musical wherein we’d have a fight, break up and then remarry.

The story was then leaked and Arbaaz and I kept getting calls from the media (Pond’s PR, though, insists it did no such thing). Thinking that we cannot reveal anything till the event happened, we kept telling them, ‘wait and watch’, not realising that it’s going to work against us and not Pond’s. We’ve been called liars, but we are not. We’re just actors who were given a script to act.” But backfire it did. For, whatever the couple may choose to tell us now, they were very much a part of the whole ‘staged’ affair. But Malaika insists that the company is equally to blame for what happened, and so, it would be wrong to single them out. “Pond’s had decided on this publicity gimmick. Not Arbaaz and me.”

But they’re not alone in spinning sensational ‘personal’ yarns, for the sake of the brands they promote. Not so long ago, a ‘phone conversation’ between Priyanka Chopra and Sreesanth did the rounds, validated by suitable quotes from the latter about this ‘crush’ he had on Priyanka. Finally, it was revealed to be a part of an ad campaign for Lux!

Malaika and Arbaaz renew their marriage vows

Thursday Night, ‘Ponds‘ Relaunched their New Anti Ageing Technology ‘New Ponds Age Miracle‘ with their Brand Ambassador Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan at JW Marriott, Juhu, Mumbai.

The evening grew more enchanting as the couple enfolded their energetic performances. The audience was enthralled by the enchanting Greek love story unfolded with Malaika Arora Khan as the Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, Arbaaz Khan as her handsome lover Adonis and an enthralling dance performance narrating the birth, death and rebirth of Aphrodite by the Terence Lewis Dance Company.

The grand finale was a re-invention of love that was brought to life with the couple renewing their vows onstage by getting married to each other once again.

Gracing the occasion was also Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza who seemed completely mesmerized with the fascinating extravaganza and later joined in the fun and dance with Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan.
