The shooting of Pritish Nandy Communications Ugly Aur Pagli is getting uglier and ‘paglier’ than the enterprising producer had bargained for, what with the leading man Ranvir Shorey, known to be headstrong and adamant when the occasion demands, refusing to surrender to anyone’s ego.Last week Mallika stormed out of the wacky film’s sets when Ranvir Shorey arrived hours late for the shooting. Honest to the core, Ranvir doesn’t deny the incident. “Yes,we did have a spat last week. We keep having differences of opinion and then keep making up. But this one was more serious. I wasn’t well at all. I had a viral fever. I popped some pills and came for the shoot. But I was about three hours late. Mallika left in a huff. So I had to shoot solo scenes that day. I got a lot of flak from the entire unit except Mr Pritish Nandy who sent me a very supportive and eloquent sms. It really cheered me up because I was feeling hugely shitty about what happened. Mr Nandy suggested I make up with Mallika because she had walked out of the sets.” Getting more into the Mallika mode Ranvir says, “I’ve worked with her earlier for Pritish Nandy’s Pyar Ke Side Effects. To be honest, this is the first experience I’ve had of a temperamental actress. Not that I hold it against or her, because Mallika becomes your chum while she’s working with you. Mallika works as a team when she’s on camera. Yeah, she’s pagli and and I’m ugly and I keep joking that we could reverse roles. But I’ve never worked with a moody diva before, not even the mythic Madhuri Dixit was very down to earth in Aaja Nachle.” With his newly-discovered niche-stardom Ranvir better get used to moody actresses. “I’d rather not. I’m having a tough time dealing with one of those,” he jokes.

Ranvir Shorey should have known it. The entire Bollywood knows Mallika Sherawat’s i-m-the-queen attitude. Making a lady with this attitude wait for three hours is not what one really dares to do. However, Ranvir could not help it and sure he along with the producer had to pay for it. During th shoot of Pritish Nandy Communications’ ‘Ugly and Pagli’, that particular day Mallika arrived on the sets on time as usual. However, Ranvir was delayed because of ill-health. The actress waited for as long as three hours, and by the time Ranvir arrived (after taking his medication) she was in no mood to shoot. She walked out of the sets and poor Ranvir had to shoot his solo scenes that day. Ranvir however maintains that though Mallika sherawat is a very co-operative and friendly actress, and that was the first time he saw the temperamental side of hers. In the film, Mallika plays a wacky, outspoken, outlandish girl called Pagli while Ranvir plays an under-confident loser, Ugly.

Not long back, this space had informed you that Mallika Sherawat was to play the role of a prostitute-turned-politician in Kundan Shah’s ‘Masquerade’. Now, the latest one is that the loud-mouthed bombshell has walked out of the film owing to some irrevocable creative differences with the director.Mallika was initially very excited about the project as it was undoubtedly one of the best and most challenging roles of her career. She had even agreed to use the typical UP language laced with colorful epithets. However, during the course of the rehearsals, she developed serious problems with Kundan over creative issues. Word is also going around that she did not like the film’s technical crew but Kundan was adamant about not changing his technical crew. A lot of other creative differences cropped up during the film’s shooting and Mallika, with her no-one-messes-with-me attitude, walked out of the film.With the leading lady walking out of the film, the project has an undecided fate now because the producers of the film, The Indian Film Company, too has decided to opt out.
