Promotion of ‘Mission Istanbul’ sans leading stars

Producer Suneil Shetty is facing a real problem having to promote his forthcoming ‘Mission Istanbul’ without the leading protagonists, Zayed Khan and Vivek Oberoi.

On Sunday, both the stars were was unable to attend a huge musical concert in Dehradun by the film’s producers Popcorn Entertainment. Only producer Sunil Shetty, director Apoorva Lakhia and actor Nikiten Dheer (who plays the main antagonist) along with the musicians were present. While Vivek is shooting in South Africa for a Tips film, Zayed, though in the country, was committed to shoot for Subhash Ghai.

Ironically, Sunil intends to promote ‘Mission Istaanbul’ in a big way in non-metropolitan areas like Uttaranchal and Bihar where the stars provide face value. Sadly, it will have to be done without either of the film’s leading men.

Riya Sen’s item in ‘Hum Phirr Milein Na Milein’

Her last lead role was in ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’ in 2006 opposite Shreyas Talpade. Then, she appeared in 2007 in the sizzling title song of ‘Heyy Babyy’. The song was a hit but Riya seemed to have lost among the bunch of girls in the song.

Now, she has a cameo in ‘Hum Phirr Milein Na Milein’ where she also has an entire item song shot exclusively on her. Titled ‘Sajan Mera’, the song also features the film’s lead Sarwar Ahuja who appears to be all pensive and troubled as per the demand of the situation in the song.

Produced by Rajesh Gupta and directed by Manish Goel, the film marks the debut of Tabassum’s grand daughter Khushi as the leading lady.

However, Riya is not cooperating with the makers for the promotion of the film on the plea that the makers only wanted to cash in on her name and popularity to promote the film. This is why she was demanding close to Rs 3 lakh just to promote the film. However, the film being a small budgeted one, the makers are not ready to bow down to Riya’s demands.

In the future, Bollywood stars will be redheads

Priyanka Chopra’s sci-fi film, Love Story 2050, will see her wear red hair! Yes, the brand new look has been designed by Thea.

“We spent more than six months trying to figure out the right look,” says Harry Baweja, the director of Love Story 2050. “The idea was to give them a look that people could imagine and relate to in future. We didn’t want them resembling aliens or looking as if they’ve landed from Star Trek. The film is set in the future but it’s not about space travel.”

Being made on a lavish budget of Rs 40 crores, the film will introduce Baweja’s son, Harman. (((Now romantically linked with Ms. Chopra, but that’s the business for you.)))

“The biggest challenge was to push the boundaries of fashion and take it 40 years forward without losing the essence of the characters and keeping them in the believable zone at the same time,” Thea explains. (((Hey, facing those artistic problems has magically turned my hair *gray*.)))

Love Story 2050 will release in June.

Bollywoods bitter love story

Do people beyond a certain age have the right to get married?

That’s a fairly valid question and it emerges from the creases of comedy in Mere Baap Pehle Aap. In the film the son arranges for his aging father to marry the woman he loved and lost.
Two years ago Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, known in real life to have share more than a passing fondness, played aging single parents who find love. The film Pyar Mein Twist bombed. So did Hamare Tumhare where Sanjeev Kumar wanted to marry Rakhi. Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha got a slightly better opening. Maybe Ashok Kumar and Pearl Padamsee looked like they were married anyway. So nobody minded.

The alarming part of Mere Baap Pehle Aap is that Paresh Rawal and Shobana who are supposed to be ‘old’ people discovering belated love together, are both in their 40s.
Is that old? Especially in an industry where women are too taken up with their careers to worry about their biological clock. They tend to ‘settle down’ a little late in life. Or not at all. Look at the screen divas who made it, and those who didn’t. Hema Malini and Sridevi found love and motherhood in the arms of a married man. Both Hemaji and Sridevi in spite of breaking the social code have conducted their married lives with extreme dignity and grace.
