Bollywood is smarting under two box-office disasters - Yash Raj Films’ star-studded Tashan and Filmkraft’s Krazzy 4.
Their failure has proved that gloss, style and fluff cannot be a mantra for success without a convincing script.
Though still running in cinemas, the poor show of the two films has already caused a combined loss of approximately Rs 400 million to the industry.
The loss includes the money forfeited by Yash Raj Films after multiplexes refused to show Tashan for the entire first week of its release following disputes over the percentage of their revenue share of box-office earnings.
With recovery from multiplexes amounting to almost more than 50 percent of the total box-office collections of a movie, Tashan bore the brunt most during the crucial week after its release.
Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Tashan had Bollywood’s most saleable actor Akshay Kumar along with most sought after pair Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, but still failed to lure the audiences.
Once again Bollywood has proved it that there is nothing called true friendship or enemity here. Talking about Saif Ali Khan, it was Farhan Akhtar who got Saif’s career on the move with ‘Dil Chhahta Hai’. But now, when things are rocking for Saif and the time calls for a repayment to Farhan, Chhote Nawab seems to have conveniently forgotten the good.
Farhan had asked Saif to guest star in his next production, ‘Voice From The Sky’. Saif agreed to the short role but asked for 20 crore where Farhan was expecting Saif to do the role for free.
So, we have it that he has opted out of the film to be made under the banner of Excel Entertainment because the producer couldn’t pay the money the actor demanded.
Farhan had recently that he was very excited about working with Saif again in ‘Voices From The Sky’. In one newspaper article, he had said, “I’m really looking forward to working with Saif after Dil Chahta Hai. He is a fantastic actor and friend and it would be exciting to join up again.”
But it seems, Saif is keeping the emotions aside and being professional to the hilt.

Saif Ali Khan has done the dirty on the man that revitalised his Bollywood career, Farhan Akhtar. Saif’s film career was heading nowhere until Farhan Akhtar signed him for Dil Chahta Hai, where Saif’s complete image and look were changed drastically. The role in the film was also critically praised and from thereon, Saif hasn’t looked back. Because of Dil Chahta Hai, Saif has managed to get himself into the big league of stars. But, when it came for Saif to repay the favour back to Farhan, he decided not to. Farhan asked Saif to guest star in his next production, Voice From The Sky. Saif agreed to the short role but asked for Rs 20 crore. This was way above the budget, plus Farhan was expecting Saif to do the role for free. According to Farhan’s production partner, Ritesh Siddwani, “These things happen. Leading men do change in the course of finalising the casting of a film. Sometimes dates don’t work out, sometimes money doesn’t work out. We are in talks with some actors and very soon we will finalise the lead man. There’s nothing to worry to worry about. We are rolling on October 1 as per the original plan.” In some earlier press interviews, Farhan was very excited about working with Saif again. In one newspaper article, he said, “I’m really looking forward to working with Saif after Dil Chahta Hai. He is a fantastic actor and friend and it would be exciting to join up again.”What are your thoughts on this story… do you feel that Farhan Akhtar has been done the dirty on by Saif Ali Khan and that Saif should have worked with him for old times sake… to pay back for Dil Chahta Hai? Or is Saif correct in asking for the fee quoted above and is being purely professional when it comes to his career? Please use the comments section below for your feedback.
Saif Ali Khan’s ex-beau Rosa Catalano seems miffed with people referring to her as the ‘latest firang item-girl all set to upstage Yana (Gupta)’. Snatching time from her favourite Capoeira (a native Brazilian dance-exercise) fitness sessions, she says that she feels cornered.
“It’s true that dancing is my passion and I have done item-songs for a few Bollywood movies like Shaurya and the upcoming Sunny Deol’s Chamku. But I hate being tagged as an ‘item-dancer’, ‘cos there’s much more to me. Producers have now signed me on for well-defined roles like in this next Sunny Deol starrer directed by Neeraj Pathak. Then there is yet another movie Ek Second - Jo Zindagi Badal De to be directed by Partho Ghosh where I have already shot for the role of Jackie Shroff’s foreigner wife,” says Rosa.
She says that her dream on screen hero is none other than the suave Akshaye Khanna.
Rosa who’s an Italian says that she wants to meet Sonia Gandhi who also born in Italy.
“The way Soniaji has blended so beautifully into the Indian culture, her moral strength and leadership qualities are truly an inspiration for me,” she says.
Before she signs off, we decided to irritate her with the same ‘Saif’ question. So wasn’t Rosa hunting for a new emotional anchor after her bizarre break-up with Saif?
“Since I believe in giving 100 per cent to a relationship, I am in no frantic hurry to get hooked on to someone just for the heck of it. Right now I am enjoying my single status, while my ‘work’ is my constant partner,” she declares as a parting shot.

Saif Ali Khan and ladylove Kareena Kapoor shot for Kya Aap Paanchi Paas Se Tez Hai? on Tuesday evening. The star couple played for a charity of their choice. The date of telecast is yet to be ascertained.
Kareena had featured in the SRK hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 with Priyanka Chopra. Saif had been on the hot seat with Preity Zinta when Big B was anchoring KBC.
The May 11 episode of Paanchvi Paas will be a soap special. It has Kyunki stars Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan as well as the Bidaai girls Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan testing their knowledge while playing for charities.
