Home Delivery - Not just pizzas, but life!
[Monday, October 17, 2005]

If Farhan Akhtar started the trend of cool hip youthful flicks set in urban surroundings with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ then Sujoy Ghosh took it further with his innovatively directed film ‘Jhankaar Beats’ that gained popularity as the weeks progressed. While ‘Jhankar Beats’ has managed to get itself a cult status over the years, Sujoy’s next ‘Home Delivery’ promises to take Bollywood a step forward as far as fresh and innovative ideas are concerned. Picture this - how many movies in Bollywood [or for this matter even Hollywood] would have a film screenplay writer and a pizza delivery boy as the central protagonists of a movie?

That’s ‘Home Delivery’ for you!

Its Diwali time and there is huge demand of pizzas at ‘Mummy’s Pizza’. The pizza outlet is on lookout for pizza delivery boys and a boy does step on its door for a job! The boy is none other than 51 year old Michael Burnett [Boman Irani] who is a simple man with minimal desires and innocence of a child. His career chart hasn’t been too impressive till date as he has lost a job every 2 days so far! But this time around he has some plans of his own as he is determined to stick to the job for a longer duration. He is ready to work hard for it and do the preparation offline and also learn on the job!

Michael soon gets his assignment of home delivering pizza at the place of Sunny Chopra a.k.a. Gyan Guru [Vivek Oberoi], a multifaceted personality who writes for Times of Hindustan, is an expert in being an agony uncle and is soon going to be a hotshot in the world of Bollywood due to his first ever screenplay writing assignment with none other than Karan Johar. A pessimist when it comes to social life, he is a bit overconfident about him and believes in one’s own worth rather than destiny or luck. As per him, it is HE who has made a name for himself and if people are behaving with him nicely then well, it’s because of HIS achievements, and nothing else.

He has number of people in his life some of whom he adores, some whom he likes and some whom he absolutely dislikes. At the top of the list of people he simply adores is Maya [Mahima Choudhary], an actress out of her prime as far as Bollywood is concerned and now a big name in the South film industry. Though she had moved to the South, her heart still lied in Bollywood where she desperately seeked a comeback in a big banner movie. Circumstances bring her in contact with Sunny who himself had been her admirer since his teenage. While Sunny is happy to meet his childhood fantasy, Maya looks at him as an opportunity to be a part of the Karan Johar product.

A girl whom Sunny likes is his fiancée Jenny [Ayesha Takia] who is his complete opposite. She is an optimist who loves and lives life and is always happy to look at the brighter side of things. While Sunny is all excited about meeting Maya on the Diwali night, he just doesn’t remember that he has also been called by Jenny at her parents’ place for a dinner.

Some people whom Sunny absolutely detests are his neighbors Pandey [Saurabh Shukla] and Gungunani [Tikku Talsania]. While Pandey doesn’t leave a single stone unturned to discuss his innovative investment plans with him and use every belonging of his in a true-blue dearest’n'closest neighbor fashion, Gungunani is under an impression that he is the greatest singer alive. Greatest to an extent that he believes he is none other than Tansen! Little did he know that actually it was only he who thought so!

In between all this fun there is also a serial killer [Arif Zakaria] whose targets have one thing in common - they are all P3T i.e. Page 3 types. Termed as a P3P [Page 3 psycho], now he is on lookout for Maya!

Coming to the movie’s story, Michael drives to Sunny’s place to deliver pizza and is soon standing right at his door. But he just doesn’t deliver pizza there. A series of incidents that follow make him deliver some of the life’s simple lessons to him!

Yet another light hearted entertainer in an year of comedies ruling the Box Office, ‘Home Delivery’ that has a tagline ‘Aap Ko Ghar Tak’ also stars Karan Johar and Juhi Chawla in guest appearances along with Victor Banerjee, Viju Khote and Rushita Pandit. Releasing a week after Diwali, Home Delivery should soon find a place in one of the MUST WATCH urban flicks this November!
