Bollywood has its very own throwaway culture that usually chews and spits out actresses who’re now past their prime, who succumb to a wave of competition from the ‘younger’ lot and who are no longer the crowd pullers. In other words, they’re now in freefall and we don’t see the bottom yet!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Hollywood film PINK PANTHER 2 which came to India but Ash wasn’t the lead actress in it. So how long will fans of her Bollywood films have to wait to see the beauty set the screen on fire again?
Ash had two releases in 2008: JODHAA AKBAR in February and SARKAR RAJ in June. Both the films did well at the box office and Ash’s performance was highly appreciated. Ash, who is currently in Delhi where she received India’s most prestigious Padmashri award will return to Mumbai after some days to resume shooting for Vipul Shah’s ACTION REPLAY.
But before that she was shooting with her hubby for Mani Ratnam’s RAAVAN which is set to release at the end of 2009 and is most likely going to be Ash’s next Hindi release after SARKAR RAJ. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, Govinda and Manisha Koirala.

The actress, who’s been touring the globe to promote Pink Panther 2, has been listed as India’s most bankable star in Hollywood by Forbes, pushing down the Khans in the ratings of the best bet for a film’s financial success. She is among six Bollywood actors in the new list of Hollywood’s Most Valuable Actors. Other Indians on the list compiled by the American mag are Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Irrfan Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
Although at 387th position in the global list of as many as 1,411 actors from across the world, Aishwarya is ranked highest among all Indian actors and is the only female actor from the country who made it to this club. The list also includes Indian American actor Kal Penn, whose films include The Namesake. At 476th position, he is ranked higher than all the Bollywood actors, except Aishwarya.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan set a record of sorts last week. She became the first Indian actress to feature in a film that was showing in over 3,000 theatres in North America.But the comedy The Pink Panther 2 is struggling at the box office, doing precious little to boost Ash’s Hollywood career.
The film, toplining Steve Martin (who also contributed to the script) as the bungling Inspector Clouseau, was harshly slammed by critics. It ’stumbles, bumbles and bores,’ complained USA Today.Ash’s performance also came for criticism.
